Dedede that's the name you should know!

Do you think the Mario kart Games would play differently if there was no Blue shell? Would you be better knowing there is no item that can drag you 5th place with one hit?

If there was no Blue Shell your game would freeze in MK64 and after that all the races you've ever played will be unfair. However they could be fair races but you'd never be able to learn and take advantage of it until you played TT. That or it would be replaced with a different item with the same function.

Mario kart without the blue shell is like Link without the master sword, It would take away some of the mario kart thrill if you got rid of the blue shell! One item you could get rid of in mario kart is the green shell...? but still that would cause a negative impact on the game, every item in the game is amazing in it's own right, the only item I don't think i'd like would be the super horn, they could get rid of that.

I think that the blue shell keeps the entire outcome of the race in doubt until you cross the finish line. Without it, I think you'd still see a frenzy of characters swapping places and battling each other, but whoever's number one would stay number one and probably will win the race. Blue shells give other racers a chance to catch the leader and claim 1st place for themselves.

It would balance the game based on skill instead of luck, honestly I just wish there was a mode to play a Worldwide match without items. Items are too luck based (ESPECIALLY in Mario Kart 8. Kinda the only reason I stopped playing it).

Yeah the Mario Kart games would play differently if there were no blue shell. We need a break from getting hit near the finish line...I would get between third and fourth all because of a blue shell. Probably many people would be so happy if there were no blue shells ever again.

As annoying as it is to lose 1st place to a blue shell, I think it should stay. It keeps the race suspenseful and you don't know who the winner is until the end.

As to the suggestion of having a different mode that tries to have a more skill based outcome as opposed to luck, I feel that would ruin the spirit of the game, as nice as it sounds.

Hmmm im a bit surprised at the majority of what im seeing in the responses here, given the amount of hatred ive seen directed at the blue shell itself from both people in my family and across the web on different websites. I cant even count how many times ive seen and heard different people complain about being hit by blue shells all the time, lol. As for my opinion on the subject, im kinda indifferent to a certain degree. Though from me personally mario kart would feel a bit awkward with no blue shell after being one to have played many mario kart games that its in. I understand why some people are kinda annoyed getting hit by it so often, especially in cases where this happens near the finish on the last lap. I have a young nephew who is only 8 and this happened to him on 150cc special cup in i think the first course, he did not take it lightly and was moaning and groaning, etc (remember, the kid isnt even 10 years old, of course he overreacted, obvious age difference here). This has also happened to me of course, and all i do when this happens is i just kinda think "well that sucks" and simply move on and forget about it. No sense in throwing a fit/ having a rampage from this for obvious reasons, kek.

Given the majority of people around me always seem to throw negativity and/or hatred towards the blue shell, im pleased to give credit to those of you who pointed out the fact it helps balance the gameplay. I too agree on that, before the blue shell came it was almost impossible/very difficult taking a skilled person out of the lead. There is no possible way i can deny that the blue shell does in fact help to balance the gameplay. Kudos to those of you who admit this even if you dont like it. ;)

That's ridiculous that's like Star Wars without lightsabers

Well, i wouldn't go so far as call it ridiculous, but your opinion is your own and thats fine by me. ^~^ i understand why you say it would be like star wars without light sabers though given its purpose in the games. Its supposed to help balance the gameplay, contrary to the perception of some persons out there who feel that nintendo put it in the game to drive the player crazy.

From me personally, the blue shell doesnt bother me much at all. I get hit, i just shake it off and move on like normal. I dont let things get to me like that, no matter how big or small. Its certainly better than throwing a rage fit! ;)

The blue shells makes the game more intresting, fun and difficult. I don't think it'll be good to get it off from the game, I prefer the Mario Kart games like that. Also, if your opponent was 1st place when someone shoots the blue shell, then you get to the 1st place, then it will still hit the opponent, so sometimes it's even helpful!

Ahhh, yes. The old blue shell tactic! One of my personal favorites kek. I purposefully held back a bit in mk7 and used that trick to come in first towards the end and also to save myself some trouble. From me personally, its kinda funny abusing tactics like that.... Hold back for a while and then catch up and aim for first from there. I dont blame some persons for saying this is noob tactics given i understand the reason for putting it that way, but i dont concern myself with this opinion; if i think its smart or useful, i just do it. ;D

The Blue Shell makes Mario Kart unique item that makes the game more fun and challenging. If you can always get ahead of the competition to where a red shell can't even hit you, wouldn't you eventually get bored of Mario Kart because it's too easy?
It adds some spice and challenge, and can even be helpful if you have a hard time racing against harder difficulty level NPCs.
Like others above have said, it's just not the same without the blue shell. :p

In my opinion Nintendo has made a step into the right direction by making the blue shells rarer and introducing a counter item against it. But taking the blue shell out of the game would take some thrill and challenge away so I like it the way it is in Mario kart 8.

This is interesting. I believe that Mario Kart would simply not be the same without the blue shell. The loud sirens, the flashing lights, and the satisfying explosion (to the person who fired it) all add up to make the blue shell part of the quintessential Mario Kart experience. Also, it's entirely avoidable with good timing and a speed mushroom...
