Warning: I'm going to be using the word "opinion" a lot.
I remember on 2013, I saw a review to a game called Resident Evil 6. The man in the video had shared his opinion on this game saying he liked it, and gave his recommendations to a similar audience who would possibly be watching the video. Then I saw an odd comment on the screen. It was longer, but
the last line read "I will not listen to anyone who tells me this game is good." That struck me as odd because the man in the video didn't say that at all,
all the man said was, "I really like this game and if you want to try it, I highly recommend it." And on a follow up comment from another user, while containing strong language (and a limited vocabulary.) basically said right up "Capcom paid you to say it was good." That last
line "Paid you to say it was good." how would he know that?? do publishers actually pay people to play games that are strongly disliked in the community? I'm not sure, and I think he doesn't know either really. maybe he was just upset that a game he played and didn't like got a positive view from someone else. But it's only an opinion, my opinion anyway.
I hate how I'm gonna sound, but for those of you who don't understand I'm about to explain what the difference is between a Fact and and Opinion. A fact is something that you can prove to be true like: "This object has sold 30.000 copies." You can easily look up the sales numbers of whatever it was to confirm if this is a fact or not. An opinion is what someone believes to be true to them so it hard to prove to be true.
If someone walked up and told me "Call of Duty Modern Warfare is pretty rad man." that is that guy's opinion on a game he really likes or if someone walked up and said "SoulCalibur V is bad." That's someone else's opinion on another game that didn't sit well with him. It seems more people are attacking other people because of their opinion on something, that's just my
opinion however.
The point I wrote this thread is because I've seen someone's opinion on an opinion go too far, at least a few times, far out reaching just videogames. People have Flamed, Trolled, DOXXed, or in some cases
threatened death, over what exactly? an opinion!!!
A reviewer gives his opinion on an object of any shape, or form whether it's his/her job to or not. Most people think reviewers are being paid to say what their talking about is good, I don't know if that's entirely true, but I do know they are paid to review, what they say about it is up to them (I can't prove if the man who reviewed RE6 was paid to give a positive review but whether I agreed with him or not is irrelevant, it's just a video.)
