So I was thinking, since the NX mostly looks like it could have backwards compatibility with Wii and Wii U games, shouldn't there also be backwards compatibility for handheld games as well (Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance)? This, would be great, but I want to know what you guys would think about this.

That would be awesome, but I'd imagine it'd be an add-on to it, like the Super Game Boy or Game Boy Player. I feel like just adding it built-in to the system would up the price for no good reason as some people don't hang on to their cartridges. There should at least be an add-on that lets us play GameCube games.

No, I'd only want Wii U compatibility, but the rest should just be on the eShop so Nintendo can keep taking in more cash for their old games.

I wouldn't count on it. Backward compatibility with Nintendo doesn't usually go back further than 1 console. I'm not even certain if the Wii U will be backward compatible with the NX - It would make sense, but some of the things Nintendo has said about the NX thus far have contradicted this notion in some ways.

I really hope it is but I don't thing Nintendo will do it.
I really want to be able to buy the Nintendo nx and play my 3ds games like pokemon acnl rayman 3d etc and be able to play Wii u games like splatoon bayonetta and all of these other games, I hope it happens but I really don't thing Nintendo's gonna go through all the trouble to make it.

I think the NX console will not be backwards compatible with the 3ds, wiiu, or anything, as nintendo has said that they plan to take a step in a new direction, which makes me belive that it will not be compatible with any other nintendo console, not to mention nintendo has said on multiple occassions that the NX will NOT replace the 3DS or the WiiU, implying it will just be a 3rd console alongside the other two, so why would the NX be backwards compatible with two consoles that they promised NOT to replace. It makes no sense, so obviously they will not make it backwards compatible.

It merely needs backwards compatibility with the 3ds, bam, instant backwards compatibility with 3DS, DS AND GBA

But if it was backwards compatible all the way then what good would eShop VCs be? Most likely it's going to be Backwards Compatible to the 3DS/Wii U (depending on if it's a handheld or a console) and the rest would be available as a VC title. Besides, who still has they're old Gameboy cartridges handy? :p

They could probably do what they did with gameboy games on GameCube, have a sepearte attachment with a disc reader for ds games and just have a place to put them. Granted this would have worked much better for Wii u as it already had 2 screens but virtual console :p

I think it would be cool. The SNES and GameCube did it before, so it would be nice to have it again.

I agree it would be cool if Nintendo does it. However, there is already the virtual console, and Nintendo is probably gonna continue it to the NX. This way they would continue getting money from their old games.Adding that feature might mean less money for them.
