Time to Split!
Towns Folk
I got my own headset that I want to use for Steam, but my desktop will only recognize the headphones and not the mic. I even tried plugging it into the mic port and it seems to pick up audio from the headphones which seems odd to me.

Now, I tested my headset on my old laptop, and it was able to pick up audio from the mic just fine. So it's obviously a problem with the desktop.
It's a Windows 7 laptop, but it's old and really slow so I don't use it for gaming. I use a Windows Vista desktop for gaming. It has more power than my laptop, but I'm also saving up for a new one so I'm using this one for now.

Please tell me what I'm supposed to do to fix this problem. I thought about buying a splitter to separate the headset into two outputs, but I don't know.
