Here are some theories for you!

Ash has a different Pikachu in each season of the anime.

Think about it. Pikachu seems to be "reset" every season to level 5. Also, Pikachu knows Volt Tackle in the Sinnoh league. Volt Tackle is only available as an egg move, requiring breeding with a Pikachu holding a light ball.

Ash starves his Pikachu(s)

He gets thinner each season. That's all I have, but shoutouts to @jamesnail12 for this theory.

Any other theories?
 
If ash pikachu get replace after Every season then how ash and pikachu friendship can be so strong (well i sounds dumb) maybe reason is every time graphics get better :p

Injected with the memories of the old Pikachu before it.
 
So i think that every time pikachu get kidnapped and kidnapper of that pikachu insert memory card of old pikachu after that kiddnapper give pikachu to ash so ash don't cry ............... Laugh out loud

maybe the reason the friendship is so high/strong is because ash bred and then brought this new pikachu up! DUN DUN DUN!!!!

That's pretty much just my original idea of the theory.
 
No, I have noticed that Pikachu seems to forgot all moves except Electro Ball and double team and whatnot snd that Pikachu seems to be weak as he is evenly matched with the gym leaders or other trainers. Its probably because there is something about travelling from region to region, that causes them to "lose" their "exp points" and moves except for some or something. Well, it wouldn't be fun to watch Pikachu demolish everything and beating the league and then be done :p
 
I don't know about the Pikachu theory...because their personalities would be different :unsure: and I doubt Ash would starve best friend (and too their always eating in the Anime).

I guess my theory is Pikachu is just getting older and that's why he loses more often and appears 'reset'. Because Pokémon don't look much different with age as it passes (remember the episode with the old Pikachu that was staring out at the sea). That's what my theory is.
