According to Serebii, they'll start doing the tests this month in Japan. You can join by going to the official site, and following the procedures, but keep in mind it's Japan-only for now. If you don't have the chance to live in Japan (just like 95% of the world), you'll have to wait longer.

And if you thought you'd be lucky enough to be chosen because you're in Japan, well, you're out of luck: "players will be selected via a lottery", Serebii says.

Additionally, the game requires an iPhone 5 or an Android 4.3+ phone.
(Personal opinion: Hopefully, they'll go with Android 4.1 or 4.2's API instead. Using 4.3's API for such a game is how to alienate 80% of the potential Android player base, as there's still devices bundled with 4.2 or lower being sold, and not all of those can be updated to 4.3 or superior. Or, for the iPhones, there's still iPhone 4 being sold in some countries (or in France!))

Opinions on this ? Do you think the requirements are high/low ? Will you register for the beta (once it'll be out for us Western players to test) ?

Well at least we're going somewhere with Go! Once they beta test it there, they may be able to improve and eventually agree on a release date ^-^

Hopefully it comes soon.

If they do release a beta test in West, I'll register the same minute they release it :D But I think they will beta test it only in Japan and once they test it, they will decide on the release date (I hope). But I'm looking forwards anyway, I've been waiting for this in dogs years :D

I WANT THAT GAME NOW. I can also imagine people going to the thar desert and die to catch a flygon. I hope all pokemon can be caught without going to extreme places like going to Hawaii and going to inside a volcano to catch a Groudon. I hope that the pokemon in a location changes every week so I can catch every pokemon

That's another con here. Most, if not all of the Pokémon-related apps have been iOS/Android-only, and in some cases, iOS-only.
But maybe they'll do a Windows Phone port as time goes by (and maybe they'll lower the Android version requirement).

I doubt the beta would really be JP-only. I suppose that they'll still do a worldwide beta, just to check and see if the game works as planned in other countries.

Hopefully. For now, since it's a beta, the only thing we may hope for is lower requirements, Windows Phone support (I get it's MS, but, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to play it), and maybe an eventual worldwide beta.

Android PHONES? Jeez.

I suppose it could work with tablets as well, but... that'd be harder than making it work on a phone (unless if you do have a 3G plan, a tablet with a camera on the back, and (probably) a GPS chip).

The only thing I don't have is a 3G plan.
