EDIT: If you go to the site yourself, it asks for a username and password, showing that nintendo is trying to hide this.

Wait for people managing to fake GPS data. As many players pointed out, the game use another Android game (Ingress)'s engine, and apparently, back then, it was possible to fake the GPS data to make the game think you were in places far away from where you live.

Other than this, honestly, I'd throw a random guess and say Japan. I just don't know why. Maybe because of you know, first Mew distribution and stuff ? (plus, if we'd refer to regions, legendaries and stuff... could be likely)
