So, I've just thought of a new variation to the Nuzlocke style playthrough that was popular a while back (it still is, really). It's meant to be played with Yellow, though it may be used on any Pokemon game. The spin I've put on it with the "Showlocke" variant includes the following rules:
-You may only use Pokemon Ash has caught or owned in the show. This doesn't include all the evolutionary forms of Pokemon he's owned. Example: Ash caught a Pidgeotto in the show, but never owned a Pidgey, so you may catch a Pidgeotto, but not a Pidgey. Another Exaple is the Raticate that Ash traded for on the S.S. Anne. Though he owned it briefly, you may catch a Raticate, but not a Rattatta, as he never owned one.
-Nicknaming is optional. Because Ash never nicknamed his Pokemon in the show, nicknaming is optional. It is still preferred, however.
-Duplicates. You may only catch as many of a single pokemon as Ash did on the show. Though I can't name any Pokemon Ash caught multiple of, if you encounter a Pokemon that meets this requirement, you may catch it even if you already have one of that Pokemon.
-Evolution. Similar to the first ruling, if Ash didn't evolve a certain Pokemon, you may not evolve it, and must stop it from evolving if such an event happens. An example would be Ash's Charmandar and Squirtle. Ash evolved his Charmandar into a Charmeleon and eventually a Charizard, so you may do as such. Ash didn't, however, evolve his Squirtle, so you may not evolve your Squirtle should you obtain one.
-Standard rulings apply. If a pokemon faints, you must release it. You must catch the first Pokemon you see so long as it meets the requirements of the showlocke ruling. Though considered optional by some, you may not heal your Pokemon in battle except by a Pokemon's move. Healing outside of battle is acceptable.
I just thought up these rulings, and know that it makes Nuzlocke challenges almost impossible on later games, which is why I recommend using these rules on Pokemon Yellow. Have fun.
I'm not sure if I've posted this thread in the correct spot, so please move it as necessary.
