When mega evolution was announced (and it still is) it was really exciting being able to transform pokemon into something else mid battle with these cool new designs but with time i see for the most part mega pokemon are either really overpowered or they are better off with other combinations and i think the over powered ones are kinda unbalanced.

a part of me wants to see it return but another part feels like the game would be more balanced without it, any opinions?

Yes, it would bring a little balance back to the game. Though it was really cool seeing some of my favorite pokemon get a stronger more powerful form. But now with sun and moon, they're adding a new concept called "Z-moves" that can be activated by the trainer, unleashing an extremely powerful move from the pokemon once per battle. This is also bringing a concept similar to mega evolution back to the game. So, yet again, some of my favorite pokemon are getting even stronger.

Hey, I know this is a pretty dumb question, but what exactly does Mega-Evolution DO to a Pokemon to make it so beefed up? I mean yeah, the appearance of the Pokemon gets cooler, and it LOOKS more powerful, but I always just assumed that Mega-Evolution just beefed up your stats temporarily. Yet, your Pokemon's health stays the same. Not to mention, I stuck my mega blaziken into the elite 4, I got hit with night slash, with blaziken in normal form. It took out about a fourth of it's health. I went back in, did it as Mega Blaziken, got hit with the same move, and with the same result. It seems that the defense stat does not change as well, or if it does, very slightly. There's not really a way for me to test attack, because all of my attacks result in KO's normally.

You can look the stats up on places like Bulbapedia or other pokemon wiki pages and it'll tell you their stats. They always improve by 100 points total.

And for the topic, I don't think they will since they have alolan forms and Z-moves. But we better have one of those for Flygon and Milotic to make up for their lack of mega evolution :p

Yea they only get stat boost in certain areas like for blaziken it is a boost in speed and attack and i think one more thing, but those stat buffs are really good for a blaziken in conpetitive

Oh, cool, thanks

I don't know, it was always more fun to me to just make the Pokemon's stats better myself (instead of just mega evolving and making the stats better for you) because it added to the fun of leveling up your Pokemon to make stats slowly better yourself and actually feel like you were making progress to become the best Pokemon trainer. However, at the same time I like mega evolution's for the opposite reason: I like how over powered it makes them. So that's what I think about it, and have a great day :)
