Apparently the new games will be the last of the francise to be availible on 3DS. Future titles will go to the switch. This has to be the most fustrating news. Honestly from what I’ve seen the switch isn’t that amazing. So I hate the fact that I would have to get that just so I can play future pokemon games. I wish they would keep the games around for the 3ds a bit longer. The switch is just so expensive.

To be blunt, the 3ds is a bit of ancient technology. Switch productions have gone up, and the potential for graphics and further story and plot development are here. Not to mention the possibility of more character customizations AND better player connectivity for the Pokémon Switch version. Albeit expensive, it looks to be a positive change from a development POV. If they can accomplish stunning gameplay and graphics for LoZ: BotW, who knows what they'll do for Pokémon Switch?

There might even be a bundle in late 2018 or later as soon as the game has been announced.

They did that move for every new generation of console from Nintendo. It isn't really a surprise. However, it's true that buying a Switch is way more expensive than when we had to go from DS to 3DS, etc.

ehhh ill get a switch eventually but so far 3ds is my favorite ^-^

Awww, that stinks but I honestly understand it. I've been mentally preparing for this to happen to the 3DS, and by now I've mostly accepted that it's in its final years. However, I am amazed at how much the Pokemon franchise has evolved over the years. Alola is the most detailed and open Pokemon world yet, and it's made the experience all the more enjoyable. So if Alola is the last Pokemon world we get to explore on the 3DS, I'm still happy with that.

It was bound to happen sooner or later, as it has done for all of Nintendo's prior products. What I'm more surprised about is how strong the 3DS' game library has been going despite being in its twilight years. The Switch should eventually dip in price or failing that, you could always go pre-owned of which I've seen from time to time about $100 AUD cheaper at least.

From what I've done on my Switch (and I've only played it in handheld mode thus far) it's actually not a bad system sans battery, it's just not fleshed out with good games unlike the 3DS at the moment. Given time, the Switch's library will be much better.

That was unfortunate to hear, but I guess it's necessary. The 3DS had countless Pokémon games released for it, and it seemed like it would never end.

As for the transition of the Switch, I'm afraid this might actually be the end of my Pokémon Career. It doesn't look like I'll be getting the switch anytime soon, maybe never. I know I was expecting the 3DS to discontinue Pokémon, but I never expected it to be a threat to my Pokémon playing. It's kinda sad and kinda scary. Even if I do get a Switch, I can't guarantee that I'll even be able to play on the internet anymore.

Man, things are looking dark. :(
