Poliwhirl’s swirls on it’s belly are actually it’s intestines. .-.

Heyo everybody! Samster here, with something pretty freaky.

We all know who Poliwhirl is. Sorta cute, and super awesome Pokémon. Apparently, the lines on his stomach (which we all thought is to represent how a whirlpool would look) are supposed to be his intestines, as confirmed by Satoshi Tajiri.

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this. I mean, I knew that some Pokémon had some sketchy designs, but this is just so weird to find out this many years later. ._.

How do you guys feel about this? Childhood ruined yet?

You think that's odd? Did you know that Bulbasaur's family are classed as frogs? No joke, Ken Sugimori revealed this in an interview on Pokemon. You'd think with the suffix "Saur" (literally lizard) that it'd be loosely based on a dinosaur, but nope. They're all frogs.

And as for Poliwag and its family's swirls, this is simply because tadpoles in real life are born translucent, and so you can see their intestines (as well as other organs) before they begin to gain pigment in their skin. That doesn't make it any less surprising finding out about it for the first time of course, but it makes sense.
