Considering that the new 3DS model will have built in NFC support, and that Smash Bros. for Wii U is compatible with Amiibos, it is a good chance that the once Mewtwo comes out, an Amiibo option will be added to the 3DS version, too. What do you guys think and do you have any ideas on other changes in a future Smash for 3DS update? If so, post them here.

I'm not completely sure that Amiibo functionality would be added to the 3DS version given that not everyone may upgrade to the New Nintendo 3DS. That said, you do have a point in that they could add it as an update. I feel Amiibo was meant to be like the handheld 3DS in that you could carry it wherever you go and then use it for battle in Smash U and stuff. I think a likely scenario is that they delay Amiibo update for 3DS while they still are marketing Smash for Wii U and insane sales from that. That said, I could see Amiibo functionality being big with other games potentially (for example, Hyrule Warriors has Amiibo interaction with the Link, Zelda, and Sheik Amiibos).

That is a good point. But, think about it. The new 3DS model has built in support for Amiibos. Why would Nintendo do that on something that's made to be portable? It only makes me wonder that Innuendo knows that they have a plan with it that will be very successful.

By Innuendo, you mean Nintendo, right? And even then it's worth noting that the Wii U has had NFC support since its launch and has only been taken advantage of now. For all we know, we might see a similar situation here. I'd expect some kind of delay on a Smash 3DS Amiibo patch while sales for Smash Wii U are going strong. They'd probably want to maximize the profit they make between the two.

Yeah, I meant Nintendo and yes, there is no doubt that Nintendo will focus on the Wii U sales before taking evasive action on the 3DS Amiibo Patch if it ever should exist.

I think that there going to grind as much money out of thewii u first. I'm sure there will be a point where the amibos will stop selling as well as they do now,I think that's when they will bring support to 3ds. At that point I think there will be different types of games that support amibo that will be exclusive to 3ds so then the amibo craze will continue on 3ds

To add to this, this probably goes back to the fact that the New 3DS is bound to have exclusive games. I wouldn't be surprised if the new Xenoblade has Amiibo functionality of some sort (maybe with a Shulk Amiibo). Especially when the 3DS life cycle declines we'll probably see a lot more exclusives that involve Amiibo functionality

I doubt there will be any huge updates. Maybe a few bug fixes but other than that nothing as big as the competitive update that changes a few physics, damage, and suicides on the 3DS version. I'm sure everything will be fixed as Mewtwo enters the scene so Mewtwo shouldn't need any changes. Comparing him with Melee his side special should reflect projectiles (and the projectiles will damage the opponent this time sort of like a projectile counter that is stronger when countered). Most other stuff I can see being the same.

Actually Nintendo has said for old models there will be an Amiibo "Portal" like Skylanders and Disney Infinity.

That's not what I was referring to in that previous post (by 3DS I meant the Smash Bros for 3DS game, which the topic was talking about). That's an interesting find though.

I think all there will be in the next update are amiibo functionality and bug fixes

When Nintendo release the new 3DS they'll most likely release the Smash 3DS Amiibo patch plus the adapter for the old 3DS/2DS

Once Mewtwo is released, I'm pretty sure they'll add in updates so that he can fit into the game. I also think there will probably be an update with a little in-game shop to purchase the Mewtwo DLC from, if you did not get it from Club Nintendo (from owning both versions). Also, I think it would be plausible that Amiibo compatibility with the 3DS (via adapter) and New 3DS could happen with Smash 3DS.

If the next update is for Amiibo support, then they definitely would add a menu that allows you to scan for them. I think that the regular 3DS is also getting a device that can be used to scan Amiibos, and it might come sometime in the future.
I also think that some DLC and a few costumes would be added, to add more features to the game.

I've read on the Nintendo website.
That there is an update for Super Smash Bros 3DS.
That Amiibo supported.
For now you will have to wait and wait untill the update comes.
On the WiiU can you play with all Amiibo.
If you still can not wait you can do on the 3DS Skylanders and play Disney Infinity.

It wouldn't be impractical updates but yes when Mewtwo comes out, they would send an update that fixed any bugs that it will have when Mewtwo appears in the game. Also, they would also send a patch that fixes gameplay as well.

I would like to see more patches and amiibo become playable on 3ds! Like how 3dslikehow stated. It would be cool but the thing would be where would we put it lol. And I would like to see 8 player smash in for glory lol. The chaos and the lag will be real

1. Mewtwo released in April I believe?
2. Amiibo are compatible with (for now) the New Nintendo 3DS and its XL counterpart, though an adapter will come to regular 3DS

I think that the next update will include amiibo support for the regualr models of the 3ds. It may even include more characters to purchase. Hopefully that it will inlude the lowering of some characters stats in order to keep the game fair for many players.

It already did update to support regular models but you would still need to get the NFC Adapter. If you check games and more you would know that already. Also Link got buffed in the recent patch so the next patch they better nerf him. Either that or Sakurai figured Link had a terrible matchup against Ryu.
