I never watched anime before. Which ones do you guys think I should watch? Or just tell me the name of which anime you consider the best and I'll check it out.

Death Note is something you should check out if you're new to anime. It's the anime that got me into anime.

If you can tell me what kind of shows that interest you, I can make a better recommendation. It is important to note that if you watch one bad anime, you can't have the impression that all other anime you watch after will be just as bad as that one.

Full Metal Alchemist (2003) (Note: There is a remake called Brotherhood, which is overall closer to the source material, but 2003 has enough differences to the point where I still feel it's a worthwhile experience, it's the version I prefer and because it's older and the difference in pacing and tone between the two, it could very difficult to watch it after viewing Brotherhood. Both FMA (2003) and Brotherhood are two solid entry level anime series to start off with and are both available on Netflix

Both Gurren Lagann and Eureka Seven are both solid introductions to the mecha genre and are also both available on Netflix

Little Witch Academia is a short film that's basically the anime equivalent of Harry Potter, if that at all interests you, both it and its sequel are available on Netflix as well

Usagi Drop is a pretty heartwarming slice of life series about a man who end ups adopting his grandfather's illegitimate daughter after he passes away and his attempts to raise her, it's available on Crunchyroll.

Samurai Champloo is a anime series that takes a traditional samurai story and mixes in hip hop elements of all things, it's available on Netflix if you want to watch an anime with arguably some of the fight choreography anime has to offer.

Pretty much Studio Ghibli film directed by Hayao Miyazaki (I recommend Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away), his films can pretty much be enjoyed by mostly anyone, even people who haven't seen much anime or don't really care for anime at all, they're very similar to Disney films in that regard. They're not available legally to watch for free, so watch them any way you can ; )

No Game No Life (My personal favourite, but not recommended if you are starting to anime, it may give you a "bad impression", but is freacking awesome)
Oregairu (Masterpiece, has 2 seasons)
Senyuu (Amazing)
I have a full list in My anime list... I can't send that to you if you want

It depends on what you are looking for. Can you leave a genre? I mean it would be bad if we gave you something horror related if you wanted a light hearted comedy, right?

If you want something comedic, I would go for Angel Beats as an intro anime. It has great visuals, music, and the beginning tone was pretty nice.

If you want something action related, I would go with Attack on Titan. Not much I am going to say here.

If you want a Thriller, feel free to follow Marc's suggestion. If you can tolerate a slow, but a little entertaining start, I would say go for Steins:Gate. It really picks up and I have friends who just got into the medium and love it.

What ever you choose, I hope you have a great time entering this fantastic (and arguable weird) medium of entertainment!

Being new to anime, you should probably watch Death Note first. If you liked that one try watching something of that genre, if not, try something else. My personal favorite anime is Shirokuma Cafe which is kinda childish but I like because it's funny, although there are a couple of ad episodes but nothing bad. If you like ninjas check out Naruto and if you like it check out Naruto Shippuden and Bleach(I know they are mainstream but they are kinda good). Other good anime includes Tokyo Ghoul, Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist...

Death Note is by far the best starter anime due to no blood in the series what-so-ever, as well as being called "one of the best animes of all time". Aside from that, Soul Eater is another great anime, which was my first anime, and it has one of the best comedy to serious to comedy transitions of all time, not to mention the origanol opening being one of the best i have ever heard, and i love every character so much. Finally, if you are looking for something bloodier and more intense then go for attack on titan, where everytime you have a new favorite character they are brutally murdered!

So many different to start out with! The anime that got me into anime is Fairy Tail. For most people, you either love it or hate it. Another classic is Naruto(not Naruto Shippuden: you should watch plain old Naruto first). Both of those 2 are an amazing blend of action and comedy. Two more I wanna talk about left. There is the cult classic Dragon Ball, or any of the animes in the Dragon Ball franchise( I don't think you have to watch them in order). Last one here. Erased or also known as Boku Dake ga Inai Machi. To put it in a few words(probably more than a few, I really love this anime), it's about someone who can go back in time, his mother is murdered and he goes back 18 years into the past to try to prevent the murder of a girl who he knew in school. The person who went to prison because of that murder he was accused of(not his mom), who he knew for sure he was falsely accused. So basically those are currently my favorite anime.

Avoid Dragon Ball GT at all costs.

Attack on Titan is alright. Code Geass sucks. Naruto has too much filler. Fairy Tail is garbage.

The anime I first watched was Noragami. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (aka Your Lie in April) is really good, especially if you like classical music. My favorite so far though, and it's still recurring, is Boku dake ga Inai Machi (aka The Town Where Only I am Missing or ERASED).

Definitely go for Naruto to HunterxHunter. I loved Naruto, and still do. Naruto is a really good starter anime as it is a main shounen jump anime. The story line is fantastic, the development of characters really gets shown through and makes for well rounded character. It is a rather long anime, boasting up to 440 something episodes. There are a lot of fillers in Naruto, but you can just skip them. Look up a list of the fillers, then just don't watch those. The fillers i would say are like another 150 episodes. Especially in regular Naruto, not in shippuden. The first 120 episodes of Naruto are regular story line, but by the end it's all fillers. Right now the Naruto Shippuden series hasn't finished because all the fillers. If you watched all the episodes, by the time you would get to the new episodes it would most likely be finished.

As for HunterxHunter, it's only around 120 episodes. The show isn't finished, but they stopped production for now, hopefully picking it back up again later sometime. HunterxHunter drags you in to the friendship of two boys, and their other friends. The show isn't all about training super hard then some how miraculously beating the enemy every time. The show is about using you head to and being smart in a fight, not just wining by brute strength like in Dragon ball. The show is very charming, and I would highly recommend if your getting tired of Naruto for a bit. They are luckily not very many fillers, which let's for a fast pace story line that keeps it interesting. I hope you find an anime you enjoy. :):p
