I was browsing through Netflix earlier and was surprised to find both Little Witch Academia films on there (Good job Netflix ), if you haven't seen them, they're essentially the best thing yet to come out of Studio Trigger who was also responsible for Kill La Kill and the best way I can possibly describe them is "Harry Potter" the anime, if that interests you, then give them a watch.
Shirobako is a slice of life anime series that I consider essential viewing for any anime fan because it deals heavily with anime production and studio politics and it can also be a very rewarding experience for someone who actually bothers to remember names of directors, voice actors and studios because quite a few of them make an appearance (however their names are slightly changed).
Nana, like Little Witch Academia is also currently on Netflix which makes it easily accessible. Nana is a soap opera esque anime series that follows two very different girls named Nana who both move to Tokyo, chasing their dreams of music, love and self discovery and strangely enough, end up living together. The series follows both characters and their personal struggles, one is constantly falling in out of love and the other is a musician who just doesn't want to make a splash, but waves in the music industry and so she forms a band and the series shows the up and downs of their career. Nana is not only slow paced but handles some very mature topics like prostitution and pregnancy and while it does suffer from a tad too much melodrama at times, Nana is still probably one of the best dramas I've seen and you're looking for a series that's "2real4u", it's definitely worth watching.

Highly recommend 1 & 10, I'm not big of romantic shows but those got me, I'd love if more of Takemiya-sensei's work get animated.
And well, if you've got an hour to spare watch any of Makoto Shinkai's works. His artstyle is definitely the best I've ever seen. Kotonoha no Niwa and Byosuke 5cm are top tier.

Anyone else a fan of darker than black? No... Just me... OK...
Really I only recommend two anime's, and they are attack on titan and soul eater, and and my school we HATE trash anime, and basically we are head over heels with those two series. I watched sword art online and I do not recommend it because it had a solid 10 episodes and AMAZING opening theme, which I must encourage everyone to listen to (better than soul eater season 1, worse than attack on titan season 1), however 11 and 12 were just so awful, 13 was decent, 14 was 10/10. I felt little to no love for episodes 15-25, due to "Japanese schoolgirl humor" laced into the heavily implied incest (at first I thought it was sibling, but it turned out to be first cousin), however 24 and 25 were good, but 24 I had to skip 4 min due to rake scene, and I'm saying rake because I don't want to say real word.
