We are all annoyed by the 3DS region lock. Why can't we play just any nintendo 3ds game on any nintendo 3ds? The solution (until Nintendo patches it) is here! The anti-region lock exploit! It's not permanent or anything and only requires and sd card and an internet connection. Yes it does work with the latest firmware version and yes it has been tested. It's really easy.
  1. Insert the gamecard in your 3ds.
  2. Turn the system on and open downloadplay
  3. Exit but do not close downloadplay
  4. Open the browser
  5. Wait
  6. Wait a bit more (it takes some time)
  7. Poof! Your game opens in the language of your handheld, despite the region lock!
  8. If you want to exit the game, use the powerbutton, not the homebutton
Awesome right? :D Tell me what you think about it or how you think it works. (Whatever as long as it works I'm happy) The trick seems to have been around some time but lets hope Nintendo doesn't patch it any time soon. There is also a website that claims nintendo can't patch it but I think it's incorrect. It's in the second link.

More info (including a video on how to do it) can be viewed here: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...without_the_need_for_a_flashcard_or_game_cart
Or with a bit more debt to it: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/new...ack-3DSs-Region-Lock-Doesnt-Require-Flashcard

@D4rkDragon tagging you because you usually know more about this kind of stuff. ;)

(Oddly enough, I didn't got the alert, but I found the thread, so thanks anyway)
I've already read about this exploit, and according to the guys @GBATemp, it works on the 9.4 Firmware. But, I was reluctant to post it because it required to browse to a certain website who does illegal stuff (Yes, that site, if you guessed it,). But then, it could be great if it was a "built-in" browser exploit.
Edit: It's the same exploit I found. It's the Region3 exploit French hacker Smealum made (both as a homebrew for those who modified their consoles, and as an exploit for "safe" consoles).

Okay, then. Lemme grab my money and import games + Take that Nintendo !

PS: I can confirm the thing works. I haven't tried importing a game for now, but the consoles reboots on the game, and might skip the Region Check service.

Glad you found the thread. I didn't notice any website requirements in the tutorial? Just the browser popping up and that's it.

No, actually, there are more steps to do.

1-You'll need a special "Launcher.dat" file that you'll place on the SD (I can provide one if needed)
2-Open the Download Play App
3-Press the HOME Menu button > Internet Browser
4-Go to the special website (not linking it even though the page that needs to be loaded executes a script, the main website sells illegal stuff)
5-The console will reboot, and will force a service to load the game, bypassing the Region-Check service.

So, it's kinda brute-forcing the console to load the cartridge, but, hey, as long as it removes region-lock, I won't complain :D !

It seems not too brute. I mean obviously if it's possible to bypass the region-checker without any alterations to the handheld itself then the region-lock isn't essential for it to function. But sells illegal stuff? Like what? Copied games or pokémon hacks?

This is great. I'll no longer fear when asking for certain games. Now, if Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai is lying in a store next time Maw and Paw go on holiday... :sneaky:

The thing who start by a "f" and end with a "d", and that was popular back in the DS era. But, contrary to what you think, bypassing the Region-Check service is hard. Why ? Because it's called once the console starts, and I suppose the check is called every time the 3DS/DS game card slot's state is altered (ie: While running and game, saving, going back to HOME Menu, exiting game, etc.). So, it is always called. But, apparently, the called service seems to block the region-check one to operate totally by restricting access to the DS/3DS Card Slot.

Lucky, :panda:. In any case, I will open fire on Amazon or Play-Asia when it'll come to games :D !
