The popular dataminer, OatmealDome, found something interesting
Apparently, Nintendo plans to change the current way it lets players connect with each other to play games online. OatmealDome revealed that Nintendo is going to change its current multiplayer server system, titled 'NEX', to a newer system named 'NPLN'.
The first game found to make use of NPLN is the Monster Hunter Rise demo.

The Monster Hunter Rise demo was the very first game to use this in public.
OatmealDome said:I talked about what NEX is in my article about Splatoon 2’s matchmaking and netcode: https://oatmealdome.me/blog/splatoon-2s-netcode-an-in-depth-look/
As I said there, NEX is at least 18 years old by now, so it’s dated. Hell, the Splatoon 2 version has an unused function to check to see if it’s running on Windows 98.
What do you guys/gals think? Do you think the new system will be better than the last?OatmealDome said:Common question: Will result in better online?
For now, probably not.
Nintendo’s primary goal is likely to make this transition as seamless as possible - to make sure that you don’t notice that anything changed.
Once done, then they can add new things or improve existing ones.
