So Mr. Sakurai haven't told any details on unlocking fighters, besides of saying that the process will be streamlined and become more interesting. And it seems that Best Buy from Canada's listing of the new Smash amiibo for Inkling, Ridley and Wolf seems to give some info on one of the ways to do so, which is by tapping the amiibo to the NFC touchpoint on the Switch.

Personally, I was surprised when hearing this news, because I would be thrilled if I can unlock fighters like Lucina and Falco straight away with my own amiibo if this info is real, so do you think that's the case? Discuss away.

Oh no. Nintendo, please don’t do this. XD I really don’t like it when Nintendo makes something unlockable early if you have an Amiibo. This is exactly what they did with Detective Pikachu, where you could unlock all the cutscenes at once for that chapter. In my opinion, it’s just a cheap way to get something you didn’t earn. Part of the fun of the game is earning the fighters yourself. I can’t express my joy whenever I beat a challenger in previous titles. I don’t wanna just get them straightaway, I want to earn them fair and square. #NoMoreAmiiboHandicaps

Yeah. Using amiibos to unlock stuff instantly is almost as bad as hacking. You should work for what you want, not just unlock everything straight away because you don't want to sit around doing this and that over snd over again until you unlock Ridley. Hopefully thix turns out to be false, but I think its probably true...

I disagree with the above opinions, There are so many characters to unlock, having the amiibo unlock it would just help. Sakurai said there will be an easy streamlined way to get all the characters unlocked anyways, so why are you so mad at adding an extra way? Personally I don't mind (as long as no characters can ONLY be unlocked by amiibo).

Personally I don't think this will turn out to be true. They didn't do that in Super Smash Bros. for 3ds or Wii U, so I don't know why they would revert back. Also leaks/rumors like this from retailers tend to be wrong (remember shovel knight amiibo compatability in Super Smash Bros. for 3ds and Wii U?), so this seems unlikely.

This is actually a pretty good idea, but how about pressing the amiibo summons the challenger to fight? Some people who mained characters in other games are more likely to have the amiibo for them, so this feature would be nice for them if they want to start practicing ASAP.

It makes complete sense from a business perspective. If you paid the money you deserve to get the character. Beating a level 50 Amiibo to unlock the character? That I would think would be a worthy way of getting them besides just tapping them but hey how would newbs unlock the character then? There's still a choice of whether you want to use the Amiibo or not so don't say that shouldn't be possible. And by the way what are they gonna do about customs?

This is absolutely ridiculous

But aside that, this is pretty nice for tournament organizers and stuff, other than that, I preffer to unlock them normally. I may use an amiibo if I want to use one of the characters ASAP (like Pit, which is my main in 4 and have an amiibo for)

The most likely scenario is that the intern that wrote the summary didn't knew sh*t or didn't understand what did the Amiibos do when it was reading the description he was given and just kind of guessed

it obvius it will be simply one more option and you will simply be able to play the game until you unclok the characters

in some forums i have seem people angry because they think this means amiibo will be necesary for unclocks, witch is very ridiculous

yeah because a early unlock can be even more horrible than instawinning via hacking

i have a easy and simple solution for both of you

dont use the amiibos if you dont want, you dont use it, the ones who want use the ones they have, and everyone is happy
