In a interview with game Informer, this happened:

I'm sure you're looking forward to not thinking about Smash Bros. for a while. Do you have any interest in developing something different?
That might be the case, but I kind of promised I’d build Mewtwo, so…

We’re currently regrouping the team in order to implement Mewtwo. The game (not to mention operating the online side) is going to need attention for some time to come, so it’s tough to take time off quite yet.

Either he is being sarcastic or he doesnt sound happy he is building DLC.
I cant tell really.

On that point, I think he's honest. Implementing a new character in the game might be tough since they have to modify how things are going both on the client and on the server side. For the client side, that might be easy, but for the server side, that's tough, since I bet they're trying to put Mewtwo's data on it while avoiding to cause downtime.
So, that leaves two choices:
-Either they have to shut a server down and transfer all connections on the others, might cause overload (thus more lag)
-Either do it risky, and put it on while there's people playing on it, and thus requesting big amount of data, might cause the server to heat up (But considering the stability* Nintendo's servers has, I doubt we'll have to worry about this-- wait, I forgot the PokéBank event).

And at least, it proves that he's not a money-hungry monster (no, I'm not referencing any kind of obscure company :sarcastic: )

*Pun intended about how Nintendo loves stable things. Especially their systems' updates.

I also think that he's honest because adding new characters/dlc would mean changing some stuff from the actual game to make the characters/dlc fit in. But then again, maybe he just isn't someone who likes the idea of dlc or extra content that you might need to purchase like those in mobile apps. (Not that Mewto isn't free but i mean like the dlc from NSMB2)

I have heard this and I was quite sad because of it but at least there is a reason for the "no" in putting DLC as D4rkDragon said . I believe that they should get the servers and all that done so that they don't clutter up when they supposedly might put DLC . I feel sad for no new characters asides Mewtwo but it's better than server cluttering and the horrible lag

He said before that he doesn't like the fact of dlc in a game like smash he deals it cheats the consumer out for some more money. He said that himself with an interveiw in one of the smash diaries in gameinformer don't know which one though

After the amount of time Sakurai put in and the tireless days of working consecutively, I'm honestly not even surprised that they're not happy to implement DLC. Sakurai worked 40 hours straight, and took a break to go home. He also had a dislocated shoulder from the workload.
Plus, not to mention the maintenance that will need to be done on the server after adding Mewtwo. Hopefully they open up a secondary server while they implement Mewtwo, or do it at a time where the fewest players are online.
