True that, so if anyone wanted to get along with FE series, Awakening would be best to try first (or event collect). The story is light and heartwarming, and while you're considering buying FE Fates next year, this game is perfect as a starter. We got Shin Kobayashi (Kindaichi) as FE Fates writer, so expect it to be something more complicated. It's clear that Awakening is meant to be an entry title, and it's probably the best one for it.
I've barely played the majority of the games in the series (2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13) and while I mostly echo these thoughts very strongly, I would actually say Fire Emblem (7) on the GBA / Wii U VC is a better place to start with the series.Played every game in the series and I've beaten most of them. I'd recommend checking out Awakening: it was created specifically to be a new entry point into the series. Fire Emblem for GBA was the first title the world outside Japan got, and is also a good entry point.
If I had to rank the series, Awakening would place fairly low, but this isn't a common opinion and I wouldn't hold that opinion if I didn't have experience with the rest of the series. It's clear that Awakening is meant to be an entry title, and it's probably the best one for it.
Oh, I don't disagree with you at all. FE7 is more in line with true Fire Emblem as well, but to a younger kid in this generation the game might seem a bit dated. Awakening is also indicative of the future of the series, like it or not. I'm not happy to see that Fire Emblem departed from what it used to be since I love almost everything from the start to RD, but this is what it is now. I think it might actually be better (these days) to play Awakening and branch out from there.[Intelligent thoughts on FE7.]
When you have to buy DLC to win, it feels like pay-to-play mobile games, imoIt also has legitimate difficulty (most notably) in its hardest mode, but it's actually beatable just by playing the game, whereas Lunatic(+) mode practically forces you to buy DLC or cling to Frederick throughout the entirety of the run.
Wait it doesn't have Luna+? D: But I'm one of those insane masochists! When you have to buy DLC to win, it feels like pay-to-play mobile games, imo
That's where FE:A level design is broken. And maybe that's why in FE:Fates that Lunatic+ difficulty is erased.
