its currently free and my pc's been bugging me about it for months now. i normally just say "yea sure" with updates, but i heard a while back that some people didn't find it worth it. i'm currently running windows 7 on an old xp and am wondering if it'd be worth it. also hoping this'll let maplestory run but that's hardly the point.

I'm not getting it for a few reasons.
  1. From what I've heard, this update actually takes out a few features that normally come with the computer. (Accessories, something involving the playback of DVDs,..)
  2. Too much data is involved on my end - some users report that the download itself is about 6GB, which is easily half my data plan.
  3. I'm currently happy with the Windows 7 operating system I already have. I got it just the way I like it, and I'm not about to give that up.
This is only personal preference. Please don't take all of my words to heart.

well i can't even insert disks since my pc is on its side for a bit of extra height for my monitor, but that 6 gig thing might be a deal breaker. i'm not even sure if i have that much room. ;-;

If the PC originally came with Windows XP, don't go above Win 7! It'll just be a waste of resources, as most of your computer's processing power and memory consumption will end up getting used by the system itself, leaving you with severely limited resources, which will almost certainly result in a constant lag (or at least it will lag when not idle)! Also, the ONLY, REAL, reason to install Windows 10 is to use with the HoloLens, which is not out yet. Also, the Metro interface from Win 8/8.1 is FAR worse when mixed with the Win 7 Aero, making Win 10 much less handier to use! Finally, the ActiveX libraries on Windows 10, much like 8 and 8.1, are incredibly poor, meaning you will have to manually add tons of .dll and .ocx files yourself if you do any programming or program modding, which is a huge pain to do for every single one individually!

Those functions weren't disabled r removed, they simply got replace with newer alternatives! All the all functions remain the same and there are a few new ones too!

To sum up, unless the PC came with Win 10 pre-installed or you have the HoloLens, there's absolutely no reason whatsoever to install them yourself! Win 7 is so far the best and most reliable regular Windows version yet in my opinion!

ok so long story short, my pc will break if i try to update it and is just crap by default. >.> hopefully windows 10 isnt too horrible once i eventually get a new pc that'll likely have it pre-installed. though i do have a windows 7 disk so i may be able to overwrite that when the time comes. now to work out what i can do to get maplestory running...

I'm getting these updates too and I have seen it in stores but I don't think its worth it because I think windows 7 is ok the way it is. The hardware is easy enough to use I don't think the new software design is worth it.

I like windows 7 better tbh. I prefer something fast and simple but if you want all the fancy features they added I guess try it. But it's also something to know whether your computer/laptop can handle running Windows 10 in the first place. Finding our it's super laggy after you install it can be a horror ;~;

That's why I never updated to 8.1 again on my laptop. An update was available but once I did it, my computer was super slow. I tried updating the drivers and everything but it still lagged. So I factory reset and disabled updates. ;-;
