Apparently Metallica are having to tour more now because their recent projects - notably that awful Through the Never movie - lost them money.

“By their own admission, the two stagings of the Orion festival were disastrous financially, and the shambles that was the Through The Never movie cost $32 million and will only recoup a fraction of that amount,” say the authors [of Into the Black: The Inside Story of Metallica 1991-2014 ]. “Factor in HQ staff salaries, crew retainers and assorted running costs associated with maintaining an entertainment corporation and you can easily understand why the band – of necessity now rather than by choice – are driven to tour Europe every summer.”

Kind of proves that even the biggest metal band can't get too big for their boots. Why would anyone make something as terrible as Through the Never? It was the Lulu of Metallica films.
