Sooo the topic already says most of it... I'm thinking of getting back in Pokemon but I'm just worried I wouldn't understand whats changed. So the last Pokemon game I played was Pokemon Red for the old Gameboy Color, and I still have the game with me. As was wondering if there is anything major that I missed, and if I should get back into it.

Feel free to jump in and play OR/AS. I liked X and Y but OR/AS is the better time sink. Get back into playing the games /if/ you really want to, Pokemon is a fun but it's not for everyone, though I'm sure the majority of people will enjoy it enough to warrant 100hours of game time.

-You missed a lot of things but Pokemon doesn't really punish you for it

Just like @Derpydo said, you missed a lot,but pokémon isn't a game with great plot so... and i don't think it has an official chronology? I guess it doesn't really matter. You might be confused and amazed by the quantity of pokémon out there by now (+ than 600 since the good old red and blue if you start with X/Y or ORAS). The multiplayer has also improved a lot and you have tons of items to prepare you for the battles that you might not understand at the first sight. If you still want to try a little bit more of the "old style" i recommend Black/White or Soul Silver/Heart Gold (remakes of the 2nd gen) because after that it's all in 3D. Also, since XY that came for 3DS,pokémon can now mega evolve, sorta like a Digimon thing :p

I didn't really play Pokemon Diamond, so I basically jumped from Pokemon FireRed on the GBA to Pokemon X and it didn't really affect me too badly.

The introduction of Fairy types, sky battles and mega evolutions, as far as I know. But they're extremely easy to learn about.
You probably already have the basic knowledge about the usual types, so feel free to jump into Gen VI :giggle:

Thank you peoples, I will get back in within a month or so, so I can get my Blastoise back with me. And fairy types?? When was that added?

They were added in gen. 6 (X,Y). Don't worry, just know that they are unaffected by dragon type moves, and you'll be fine. :)

I guess it will be quite hard for you to get the new concepts and gameplay but it will be fun . I know that it will be very easy for you so it really wouldn't be such a bad choice to get back to pokemon games . These new concepts are quite easy to get used to so all you have to do is just feel like this is your first time in a pokemon game  The game is also worth to sink in hours and hours due to like wifi battles and stuff

Well you definitely missed out a lot and you may not know a lot of pokemon but i suggest you get back in the game and start playing again, the game i suggest you start with is pokemon x or either Pokemon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire since you will be able to understand most of the knowledge that you missed out.
