"Now aiming for a Q1 2016 release

With the end of the year fast approaching, now is the time when the big game releases usually start rolling out. Last week the brilliantly crafted Super Mario Maker hit store shelves worldwide to mark the beginning of this period as well as celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic plumber.

With one release down and a number to go, Star Fox Zero was the next big title on the radar of Wii U owners. Originally scheduled for a November release, in somewhat unfortunate news, Shigeru Miyamoto on behalf of Nintendo has today announced via social media that the game has been delayed due to the Kyoto-based company wanting to further polish the overall experience, and is now targeting a Q1 2016 launch.

Read the full message from Mr. Miyamoto below:

I made a big decision last week.

We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year. Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas such as the unprecedented discovery that we want players to experience in the game by using two screens, and further polishing the level designs and perfecting the tone of the cut scenes.

While we have already reached the stage where it would be technically possible to release the title in time for the year-end holiday season, we want to polish the game a bit more so that players will be able to more smoothly grasp the new style of play that we are proposing.

To the people looking forward to the launch of the game this holiday season, I am very sorry.

Star Fox Zero is going to bring new game play and experiences that take it far beyond the framework established by Star Fox 64. All the members of the development team are doing our best so that the final product will not betray your expectations. And the game will not be delayed for a very long time – we're aiming to launch the game in Q1 2016. Please stay tuned for further announcements."
Discuss! :p

Well that sucks. I was hoping for it to come out at November, but it's alright. After all we gotta follow the words that Miyamoto taught us:

A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.

Star Fox Zero was in desperate need of polish when they showed it at E3, so this is a good thing. I'm not going to believe that Q1 release for a second though. It'll end up getting pushed to summer, maybe even fall.

I'm interested to see what Nintendo does in the coming months because they literally have no big games releasing that will appeal to the general market. Not saying Star Fox Zero would have, but still. Xenoblade Chronicles X is an extremely niche title, then all that's left is Yoshi, Animal Crossing amiibo Festival, and Mario Tennis. Interested to see which they push the most, if any of them. Could just see them pushing Wii U as the platform that plays every toys-to-life game, honestly.

To make matters even worse, the only games left scheduled to be released before Christmas in Japan are Mario Tennis and Animal Crossing amiibo Festival, two games we haven't seen anything of. Europe also already has Yoshi's Woolly World.

Personally I'm not that all upset by it. My guess it that Miyamoto wanted this game to be a major improvement of all the other Star Fox games.

I am not upset at all. Don't listen to people, nintendo wants 2016 to be the big year for the wii u. Star fox zero needs some polishing, the graphics sis not look good so I am guessing they want to revamp the graphics so it looks better. Legend of zleda and star fox zero are the wii u's big games next year. Nx is not coming until 2017 or 2018, I know it because nintendo is releasing and announcing more and more wii u games in 2016, also, wait for a nintendo direct, I am sure that there will be more details and new announcements and new games. the wii u's spftware tends to sell very well and sells consoles, so I am sure nintendo will make more wii u games, plus, I think delayed games get really good, I can not wait for legend of zelda and star fox, I know that they will use the full potential of the wii u and wii u gamepad.

As I said before, I wasn't upset by it. :)

Wow, first Zelda Wii U got delayed, and now Star Fox Zero? Let's hope that the wait is worth it for both games, since Nintendo made the decision of giving it more time to improve. I can just imagine the surprised looks on everyone who was hyped for this game, now that they have to wait until early next year.

Well, I hope its worth the wait. A game is worth the wait if there is significant improvement, star fox zero needs to have better graphics, I think that is why there was such a delay on star fox zero, and Legend of zelda got delayed because they wanted to make it better and I think it was also because Legend of zeldas birthday is next year, so it would be better to release the new legend of zelda game next year because of that. All I hope is that its worth the wait

Perhaps that's something Sega Should've done

If it's for the better of the experience of the game then I wouldn't mind the delay but I know there are probably some people who might've really wanted the game to be released this year. Hopefully there won't be any additional delays, though I kinda doubt that'll happen.

Yes, a game that wants to be good does need time in order for it to be well developed. Nintendo is making a smart move to not rush it just to make a few quick dollars. Zelda has a game almost every year, and it is normal for a game series like that to be delayed. Star Fox, on the other hand, is a game franchise that hasn't had a game for nearly a decade. A well developed game like this will make a great return for the franchise.

Either way, I plan on pre-ordering it as soon as we learn the New Offical release date.
