Hiya peeps, P2.0 here, coming atcha with a semi-topic semi-question post. Huzoogles! \o/

So if you guys know by now, people have been suggesting for me to get Stardew Valley on Switch. Have to say, reminds me a lot of Harvest Moon, and I enjoy that series very much. But the thing, I dunno too much about it. And I don't feel too confident going in blind.

So! To the people who own it, what should I do first, and what valuable info could help later on? 'o'

When you first start the game, you’re most definitely going to want to clear out some space on your farm. If you didn’t know, when you first arrive at your new farm, it’s completely covered with stones, pieces of wood, trees, and lord knows what else. You can clear as much as you can before you run out of energy, and then craft a chest as soon as possible (to craft a chest, you must have 50 wood). After that’s all done, sleep, and then buy as many parsnip seeds as you can carry.

At about this time, you’ll also get the Bamboo Pole from Wily at the dock, and then you can start fishing. What I recommend you do is nurture your plants every morning, and then spend the rest of the day fishing. (In my experience, fishing at the dock nets you better fish, but idk for sure).

Keep doing that, and then once you’ve got a decent sum of money, you can buy better seeds, which net more profit. Take note that these better seeds take longer to grow, so plan accordingly. When you buy a seed, it tells you how many days it takes to fully grow that plant. (For example, parsnip seeds take 4 days to grow fully.) If you plant a Spring Crop, it’ll die when Summer arrives (unless you have a greenhouse, which comes much later in the game).

Make sure to also build your relationships with villagers as you go along your day. Some of them you can only be friends with, while others might be a potential candidate for your “life partner”. Relationships are very important, and you can tell your relationship with a villager by checking how many Hearts you have with them. Something good might happen if you reach the max relationship status with them.

That should get you started on the first little bit of the game. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me anything, I’d be absolutely more than happy to help! :kermit:

Omg, that's a big help! So I need to get parsnip seeds at first? Alright, I'll be sure to do that. :artist:
Fishing's not my strong suit, but I'll give it a go!

...What kind of benefits do friending townsfolk have? :eyes:

Lots of things! For example, the villager’s dialogue changes significantly, and feels way more personal and directed towards you specifically. There’s also special heart cutscenes for every villager in the game, and they even send you gifts in the mail from time to time! *^*

In order to befriend a villager, talk with them every day, and give them gifts as often as you can. Make sure to give them a gift they like, though! Cause they might get offended if you give them something they hate, lol. Make sure to experiment a lot, and try to find the perfect gift for the villager you’re trying to befriend!

Just thought I should add this to my previous post: You can only gift people two gifts per week. So, unfortunately, you can’t just breeze through the process. There is some waiting involved. Just thought I should include this so there isn’t any confusion, lol

Wait, you can't do it every day?? What kind of gift system is that? But seriously, thanks for telling me. My dumb butt would've just kept gifting cuz I'm used to Harvest Moon's gift system, lol. That'll save me a lot more items, tho. And it'll give me time to discover what gifts are the right ones to give. ( Only downside is I guess the heart points will raise slower, right? )

Yeah, heart points do raise slower, lol. I would’ve already married Abigail if the game would’ve let me. :eyes2:

But yeah, it’s also smart to wait until at least the second or third year before marrying, iirc

Save a lot of money for the spring events as you can buy strawberries one of the most profitable spring crops, the best way to start off.
