Hey, guys!
Today, I'm going to give you another little story.
Before I begin, I want to give a shout-out to my older sister and Dad, who introduced me to Pokemon. My Dad would bring home the anime from the library (as we didn't and still don't have any cable), and my sister actually had Pokemon Gold, and she would let me play from time to time.
So, my first game was Pokemon HeartGold. I had heard of it, and thought it was really cool. So, I got it, and I picked Chikorita. So, when you're 9 years old and was given the option to name things, I always put them in caps. It was so funny, because when I had to name Silver, I thought to game was asking me to remember what his name was when I first battled him (Passerby Boy). So, I tried, and my rival was named BADABOY. Oh, my innocent 9 year-old mind.
So, yeah, my first Pokemon caught was a Sentret, and I just evolved from there. Speaking of evolving, I think most of my Pokemon either didn't evolve or was switched out because I thought some Pokemon were cooler than others. I wiped my game, so I can't check to see what I won the Hall of Fame with, but I digress.
I think that the part that really got me was the type advantages and disadvantages. Now, my mind today is geared towards strategical battling and such, but back then my mindset was "Attack, Attack, Attack, Attack, Attack, Attack," and that's how it went. You can probably tell how difficult the game was for me because of that. I'll skip the boring parts and go right for the juicy bit.
So, here I was, at the Elite 4, and I used my Meganium to try to defeat everyone. Again, I had no idea about types, so I got beaten a lot. And do you know what level my Meganium was before I finally beat the Elite 4?
100.
My Meganium was level 100 before I bet the game for the first time! I had no one to help with that, and no one told me about type advantages. So, I guess I must have had a lot of patience for a 9 year old to get a Pokemon to level 100 by myself before beating the game for the first time.
After I beat Lance, I was starting to realize type advantages and disadvantages, and by the time I was challenging Red, I had memorized the entire type match-up system. As my first Pokemon game, that was what got me started.
So, that's my Pokemon story! What's yours? What was your first game? Make sure to comment down below!
See ya later!
