Looks like there is a chance of getting temporarily banned if you quit during a match, become idle while playing, continually self-destructing or just by targeting only one player for the majority of the match.

What do you guys think? Do you feel this is necessary for the online portion of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS?

Yes. So us players don't get annoyed off by the majority of trolls.

Well, maybe the targetting one player a majority of the match is a little overboard, but the rest I can understand.

Everybody can understand, it's just that some players are too ungrateful for online, they want a rule free online.

Sakurai strikes down upon cheaters with a righteous vengeance

Good to see Sakurai is paying attention to almost every detail of the game so it can be a great memorable experience.Yet,I think some people will not even bother to read this, and they'll end up being banned from the online service for some time.:meh:

Though I don't really know how the "attacking one person excessively" thing works, overall, it seems like a great idea to repel trolls or people that makes the game not fun to play online.
Nice move from Sakurai and co.

PS: I wonder if "permanent ban" is also a possible penalty... Just wondering, that would be a good way to deal one for all with those who don't want to play the game the right way !

I think this is necessary for a game like Super Smash Bros. I'm honestly surprised by it (when they announced this being implemented in the Smash direct), it'll prevent a lot of "trolls" from annoying people who'd like to have fun, and it's (on the overall) a necessity for online gaming (IMO).

I actually don't like that idea, I feel like that's way too restricted, if someone has bad internet service, and they continuously leave matches, even though it sucks, that isn't their fault, and let's just say that they plan on getting that bad internet service fixed in the near future, yet they got permanent banned.... I don't see it turning out nice for that person.. But that could just be one way, if they person is self-destructing on purpose then... they deserve to get banned. I don't think it'll be implemented on that restriction though :bag:.

I knew you were going to post here :bag: (was stalking)

Don't worry for this, I think Nintendo will understand the case of the bad Internet, power outage, that kind of stuff, just as long as it's not really repetitive... Also, I think that Nintendo should particularly watch the player with the bad Internet, just to avoid an accidental "outage/loss of connection" or something like that while he was losing.

But yes, in any case, they should have a support team for accidental cases like these to ask for a penalty to be cancelled if the disconnection was accidental. Also, I think the 3DS should return some code to the server in case where the user was to press
the power button a bit too soon.

Also, for the perma-ban, I was just wondering, I doubt Ninty will actually put something like that in place :p.
(By the way,, you were stalking me?)

I don't think Nintendo would perma ban. It's not something that seems very likely. As for how far they'll accept power outages/internet disconnects, I'm not completely sure. I would assume it's a sort of three strikes then calamity system where you're given warnings for the first three or four faults, and then a temporary ban of like a week.

The thing about logging off suddenly is a bit unreasonable. Maybe an emergency happened, or you had to log off right away without notice. I think the other rules are acceptable, though

Oh yeah,I remember hearing about that.I know when people play online and try to be intimidating,or a 'bawse',they try to repeatedly pressure other new players to scare off others. And sometimes people like to troll and just keep on getting in the way of characters(Standing idle).Kicked for poor connections? I agree,it'd make playing hard with others, but that shouldn't be a reason to ban people,IMO.

Poor connections might also be the cause of it or repeat challengers that hard reset their games to be trolls cannot be caught either (or can they?) so hopefully none of this has to happen. The middle two issues are perfectly acceptable reasons to ban people from playing online however the last one can only be an issue in For Fun mode as that's the only place I can find that a problem. But if these rules are still in effect in fighting with Friends then I'll start some hate.

Hopefully something can be resolved by this happening. Will people purposely try to get hit only by one certain player and not do anything about it?

Seems pretty strict, but that is to be expected from Nintendo I'd say, don't think I'd do Amy of the following (except maybe target one player :p) so I'm pretty safe I think ;)

There are many online games where someone just ragequits on the moment of being beaten by somebody else. I'm more than happy for Nintendo laying down the law in Smash 4. No ragequits, entering a match and doing nothing, continuous suicides or bullying are allowed in this game. Although the 'bullying' part's moot of you are just doing 1v1 matches.

As long as the "targeting one player excessively" is done right (which the wording already implies), I still love everything about this and think it's a much-needed implementation that I'm glad to see in SSB4.
