Nintendo is finally entering the DLC generation. Today, when we spend 40~60 bucks in a game, it's not a game, it's only the first chapter of the game.

I'm happy when these additional content are items, costumes or new challenges; but relevant chapters on Fire Emblem, MewTwo on Smash Bros and the Origin pack on Fantasy Life are things that make me think my games are incomplete! It's not fair! :(

Maybe I'm getting old, but when I get the game, I want the WHOLE EXPERIENCE!

(It's just my opinion and my feelings, feel free to disagree)

I agree With you. When I buy a game that I know will have additional content that is important to the games story, I feel like I either must buy the Whole thing, or not buy it at all. I disagree With the mewtwo dlc though. It is just a New character, and you dont really need to have it in Your game just to have it completed. Nintendo nailed the hyrule Warriors dlc though.

I feel Nintendo adds DLC when the game becomes a little unpopular or to make it even more enjoyable to fans out there who want to buy the game or just they forgot the idea of the character when making the game.

I'm completely fine with any type of DLC unless it's micro transactions.

I used to be somewhat against DLC, but recently I just can't seem to wrap my head around why people dislike it, especially with Nintendo games. Nintendo never releases a half baked product. Let's use Mario Kart 8 as an example. While I personally dislike the game, it's a complete Mario Kart experience. 32 tracks. That's been the standard since Mario Kart DS (or Wii), however with the inclusion of the DLC for the game we're going to have a total of 48 tracks in the game. That's almost double what we expect from the series and it costs less than $15, a fraction of the games actual price.

I'm not a big Fantasy Life guru or anything, but wasn't the Origin Island DLC released much later in Japan than it's initial release? Of course they aren't going to bundle it with the game if that's the case. If you're too stuck up to pay $40 for a game with around 400 hours of content (from what I've heard), then you're insane.

I'm not really bothered with this that much. Most of the dlc doesn't prevent you from enjoying the game and it's not essential to buy the dlc in most games. Stuff like extra ssb characters more mario kart character, skins, and stuff like that is okay for me because It doesn't take anything away from the main game., it's just some side stuff intended so you can just spend a bit more time on the game. the time when it gets too extreme is like in sky landers and disney infinity when you NEED to buy more characters to even enjoy the game.

I don't mind dlc. In fact, I love adding content to games that haven't been played in a while...but I like dlc done right. It erks me when game developers announce season passes and expansion before games are even released, as then I know they are already designing a game with content purposefully left out so they can make a few more bucks. When evolve was first announced, it wasn't announced with a trailer, or even an explanation as to what it was....instead it was announced via the season pass....when all you have for info on a game is a season pass and the name, you know you did something wrong. But something like mewtwo doesn't bother me, as I know that I got the full game already (or rather I know that mewtwo wasn't already finished and just is locked away for the sake of dlc, but rather he wasn't even worked on until after the game was finished), and that this is just a little extra for fans

To be honest im totally fine with DLC. DLC are made for people who really enjoy the game and want more. It's better because if you want new content you don't have to wait till the developers make the next sequel to the game in 2 years. You can have it now. I do agree you feel like not having full experience, but DLC are made so you can buy if you want more of that game.

Just like what @Nanamine said, I'm fine with some types of DLC as long as it's not something like:

-Micro-transactions. I mean, mobile phone games have loads of them, and it's not fun. Who can have fun waiting XXX hours before playing again, or pay to play immediately ?
-DLCs that affect online features. Some DLCs tend to modify online matchmaking or even restrict playing with friends unless you also have the DLC. Bad way to advertise one.
-DLCs that aren't worth their price tag. Who wants (example) to pay like €5/$5 for something that isn't worth the money ? Sounds ridiculous. Also apply to overpriced DLCs.

On another hand, I'm fine with those:

-DLC who adds extra characters/items/chapters for a game, as long as it derivates from the game's main story, so you can't feel like the thing could have been added in-dev.
-Costumes. Doesn't modify the game in any way, and some can be cool. But only if there are a lot of them in the DLC, so it matches the price, so the price/value thing is interesting.

That type of DLC really piss me off ¬¬

I'm glad there's different opinions for me to consider here :D

I love DLC, as long as the game itself feels complte without it. For instance, Fantasy Life and the Mewtwo DLCs feel totally right IMO. Without these, the games are still totally complete.

I'm happy that Nintendo is getting into DLC, like for Fire Emblem it was brilliant! Plus, when the devs are releasing DLCs that are made post-game (by that I mean that they weren't doing the DLC at the same time as the game) it's also easier for them to patch the issues in the main game; the devs are still working on the same project, they don't need to hire extra people to look into that, etc.

I'd say I'm fine with DLC on Nintendo systems, as I haven't ever seen them release DLC for soemthign that is already on the disc/cartridge. If you look at Infinity Ward/Treyarch for example, they make you pay for content that is already on the disc. People still buy it, sure, but it's a cheap way to make money. Why should you have to pay to unlock soem content?

Nintendo, on the other hand, has never really done this. They usually release the full game, and add some extra chapters that are not relevant for some small fee.

I'm sorry but the DLC maps in CoD are not already on the disc when you purchase the game, it's a true DLC.

Some of the DLC is quite good, for example, adding more areas to MK8 some time after release. But removing essential gameplay to make us pay for it is just wrong, something Nintendo doesn't seem to be doing. I mean, there's Pokemon Shuffle coming to 3DS eShop, but it'll be a "freemium" game, but that doesn't bother me. It's like a limited version of Pokemon Trozei.

DLC is good if it's an add on, meaning the original story of the game won't affect too much even without the DLC. It's also good as thanking the developers of the game in making these DLCs, as they were not "originally" planned but were pushed by the "demand" (if there is a demand tho). They've given enough effort in providing these. I just can't understand DLCs that are worth almost HALF the game. It's like woah, brother is an entire new chapter or a new game.

My point is: DLCs should come cheap. Haha.

DLCs are okay if they're created to extend the game experience. The DLCs I hate are the ones that give people with money a game-breaking advantage. I hate it when I lose on PvP games just because I didn't have an extra $10 to spend on the game.

Yes I agree. I wish games would be complete in physical form. It makes me worry about what it might be like to game in the future when Nintendo's online might look completely different.

I like DLC that comes out long after the game has released and adds things to the game like extra chapters, characters, etc. I think for the most part, Nintendo has been pretty good with DLC. I don't have many complaints.

Netherrealm studios, however, is another matter. My favorite character from DC comics is Martian Manhunter, but because I'm a Wii U gamer, I can't play as him because they never released the DLC for Wii U....

Well, I felt like this at first. But you have to realize: The Wii U has been out for 2 and a half years. Nintendo is very behind in the console race, and only in latter 2014 (October/November really) were they finally beginning to even have a chance. Now, I understand the whole thing about 3DS DLC, but..you see Microsoft, Sony, (and even Steam developers for PC) having DLC for almost every released game.

Believe it or not, this is where the money comes from.

I don't know if the number of people that buy map packs for CoD/Battlefield would surprise you, but it's a pretty big amount. Nintendo never really had an online capable console until the Wii, but even then they didn't release any DLC. You can feel like this is just a way to squeeze money, but in the long run, Nintendo is really behind in the gaming market and now they realize that.

Plus, tell me this: If new characters/stage packs came out for Smash, are you really telling me you wouldn't consider buying? Just look how successful the Mario Kart DLC was.

I can both agree and disagree depending on how the DLC affects that type of game, Many DLC are worth it , But Some Are just not worth it so it all depends I generally don't like DLC because it just doesn't seem right because it may result in lots of money spent and sometimes it may not be as satisfying.............:blackeye:

Ugh, I talked about how I hate games with dlc in them but have the content locked away, then I find out Fantasy Life does that...but it's soooo addicting :( Oh well, I'll risk sounding like a hypocrite and still say I hate that type of dlc, but will most likely buy the Origins Island expansion soon
