Yes, the Gameboy (not Colour) is 25 years old today !
It was a phenomenal success for Nintendo, who threw NEC (PC-Engine Express), Sega (Game Gear) and Atari (Lynx) literally off the handheld market.
It had a great success thanks to its poor power consumption, and could last up to 10 hours with only 4 batteries!
The two GameBoy games that sold the most were Tetris, which was sold with the GameBoy, and Pokémon: Red&Blue (&Green for Japanese Players).
Also, its success was due to its low price. It was sold for ~90€ in Europe (I have no price for North America), compared to Atari's Lynx who was sold for the double.
Finally, the Gameboy had also some accessories designed for its games: the Gameboy Camera (for... the Gameboy Camera), the Gameboy Printer (Gameboy Camera, Pokémon series), and the Link Cable (Games supporting Multiplayer, too much to list them)
