In Pokemon Firered I was trying to catch Mewtwo and couldn't do it despite having him on 1HP, paralyzed, and asleep. I was down to my last pokeball (a regular pokeball) and actually ended up catching it. Talk about pure luck lol
 
Suicune in Pokemon Crystal. When I encountered it I decided to throw a Pokeball and see what happens and surprisingly I caught it.
 
I think it was Lugia. Managed to get it paralyzed and around 1hp. xD

I had to use so many Ultra balls.
 
Same as you, OP. Mewtwo in a Pokeball. B^)

I have also caught Groudon in a Great Ball before, and I believe Rayquaza in...get ready......a Nest Ball. xD
 
- Lugia in Crystal with a single Ultra Ball
- Shiny Exeggcute in Crystal after unsuccessfully searching for a Heracross for three hours
- Shiny Staravia in Platinum, just cos shiny

Rotten luck was trying to catch Giratina in Platinum and 6 times I managed to get its HP to the lowest, failed to catch it with all my Quick, Timer, Dusk and Ultra Balls, then had it struggle itself to death. I got sick of it and just threw the Master Ball just to get out of the damn place.
 
I battled mewtwo in X and happened to catch it after 4 Ultra balls. I actually used Charizard X against it and took it down to about 10hp with one attack.
 
I caught Mewtwo at full HP with a Pokeball. It wasn't asleep or paralyzed. As soon as the battle started, I chucked a Pokeball and caught it.

I've only been able to do it that one time.
 
Ho-Oh in SoulSilver took me a lot of time and Pokeballs. I think I was running very low on Ultra Balls (had used around 80) and I was close to having to give up. As the tension rose, I began to worry, but in the end, I finally caught the Poke. I was expecting a similar experience when I went to catch Mewtwo, but that battle surprisingly took only a couple Ultra Balls to finish.
 
In Pokemon Y the other day I wanted a female, HA Shuckle and literally third encounter in Friend Safari was exactly that... but SHINY. Caught it in a Quick Ball, which I later realised was the perfect ball for it. >:3

First shiny in the game too, so much hype was had

I caught moltres one of the trio legendary..only using one ultra ball after deacresing it hp about 3/4 of its life.. Haha never expected it can be caught just by only one ball , I think this is the most epic catch in my experience playing pokemon games..when I got this pokemon I think its in LF version as I
remember :/ forgot though it a long time ago~~

Drudinggon in Pokemon X. I was training my Sylveon, and watching That 70's show. So I wasn't paying attention, so i was just spamming a to attack. I got zoned out to the tv for a while and on my next encounter i ended up looking at the screen when the camera was rotating around me. I was thinking about running because of something, but I said to myself. Let me see if this is a Shiny. There's always a chance. Turns out it was a shiny, and I just saved myself from missing out.

Still have the pokemon in my X game, and Green is my favorite color. Although Green mixed with Orange is kinda weird. I think this is cool because there was an Anime episode with a Shiny Druddingon, and the Dragon master herself Claire was in the Episode. so was her Dragonite, and Charizard. So I feel like I caught that same Drudingon. Damn spelling this guy's name is hard.

My best would be a mewtwo it self. I reset everytime when I catch mewtwo because I wasted so many ultra balls every single time. It took me about 30 times,I know it's not much but I'm still glad that I caught mewtwo but then my save file got deleted so I thought to myself, everything I've done was gone. I couldn't transfer mewtwo because you know, save file got deleted so yah. Mewtwo is the best thing I caught. Oh and the x y version. The mewtwo I caught heated the elite four easily by itself

Same as OP, except with Azelf. I had wasted 50 Dusk Balls, 50 Ultra, 50 Timer, 23 Great, 20 Quick, 4 Net, 3 Heal and 6 Pokéballs. I had 3 regular Pokéballs left at the end of it.

When my friend was trying to catch Mewtwo in x, he tried throwing ultra balls, dusk balls, and everything but nothing would catch. I told him to use a heal ball. He looked at me funny and I said, trust me use the heal ball, and it caught.

In Diamond I was screwing around at the first route training something, when all the sudden a shiny Starly appeared. Talk about nerve racking. My first shiny and I only had one pokeball. I did get it though. :)

I haven't catched mewtwo yet in pokemon fire red he is soo hard to catch,well in Pokémon Heart Gold,i spent like days trying to catch Ho-oh and then one simple pokeball after some long hours of parlzying him.I was happy that day thoug,strange though mewtwo is easy to catch in pokemon x.

Rayquaza in Pokemon AS and OR. I decided to throw a premier ball at it at full health..it worked.

I threw one Hyperball at it while it was on full health and it worked
Lugia in Soulsilver: samething
Zekrom in White:Caugth it with a Pokeball if that counts

Hyper ball? I think its Ultra Ball unless ur living in Japan...or somewhere else...
