"Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My name is Oak! People call me the Pokémon Prof! This world is inhabited by creatures called Pokémon! For some people, Pokémon are pets. Other use them for fights. Myself… I study Pokémon as a profession...."

For many of us, this text was what we were first greeted with upon starting up our copies of R/B/Y/FR/LG. Now, while my first game in the series was Sapphire, I still have very fond memories of journeying across the Kanto region, catching critters, and battling the evil forces of Team Rocket. It was practically the same formula for a while. A professor gives you a starter, you travel across the region you're in to beat the Gym Leaders and collect the 8 Gym badges, battle an evil team along the way, face off with your rival a few times, and finally challenge the Pokemon League. Well... that all pretty much changed with the release of Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness for the Nintendo Gamecube. Now, while there were titles such as Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium that strayed from the core gameplay, there weren't any titles that did so and yet somehow still managed to feel like a main series Pokemon game. Some people loved them. Others... not so much. Personally I thought they were amazing games and I have a great time playing them. Share your thoughts on these games and tell us some personal stories about them if you have any!

I've heard about those games, I've never really given them that much attention though so I don't know much about them.

As they were the first 3d pokemon adventure game I was so hyped ( even though I never got to play them :( ) but I was a bit disappointed when you couldn't find pokemon I wild grass like the original games.

They were really fun. especially the GCN titles with their own story and environment that is totally different from the typical Pokemon world. In fact they were more enjoyable because of it and introduced more double battle based gameplay. It was an even more difficult yet fun challenge because you had a limited amount of Pokemon to choose from. Admins were basically Gym Leaders and Colosseums were basically small Elite Fours.

Well said.

Well, for still having my Pokémon XD game in my room (without the controller to play it), I can say that it was a rather good "port" of the concept of the main series to the console. I also enjoyed the fact that Pokémons you get in XD could be sent back to the GBA games and vice-versa, and how the console could literally act as a "server" for 3-4 GBA consoles.

As for the story, I enjoyed it too, it lasted quite a while, and if you're adventurous, you still have that place where you fight trainers in a row, similar to the Battle Resort/Mansion/I don't know the rest thing. I almost managed to beat the 100 trainers...
if it wasn't because of memory card and controller issues.
