"Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My name is Oak! People call me the Pokémon Prof! This world is inhabited by creatures called Pokémon! For some people, Pokémon are pets. Other use them for fights. Myself… I study Pokémon as a profession...."
For many of us, this text was what we were first greeted with upon starting up our copies of R/B/Y/FR/LG. Now, while my first game in the series was Sapphire, I still have very fond memories of journeying across the Kanto region, catching critters, and battling the evil forces of Team Rocket. It was practically the same formula for a while. A professor gives you a starter, you travel across the region you're in to beat the Gym Leaders and collect the 8 Gym badges, battle an evil team along the way, face off with your rival a few times, and finally challenge the Pokemon League. Well... that all pretty much changed with the release of Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness for the Nintendo Gamecube. Now, while there were titles such as Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium that strayed from the core gameplay, there weren't any titles that did so and yet somehow still managed to feel like a main series Pokemon game. Some people loved them. Others... not so much. Personally I thought they were amazing games and I have a great time playing them. Share your thoughts on these games and tell us some personal stories about them if you have any!
