Where did you start, what gold did you find, and what's your advice?

Three simple yet hard to answer questions about your personal experiences with Anime and Manga. I wonder what kind of stories you'll all tell. no matter how long or short.

1:Where did I start?
It's actually pretty hard telling. I had an intrigue in the animated world on a whole considering how I was raised. If I had to guess, it's the appeal that entire planes of existence could actually fit on a piece of paper or a television screen.
As for anime exactly, I'm pretty sure all the pokemon and digimon in the world held my attention the best... for a little while...
Then I thought I outgrew the whole experience for a few years - as appealing as these colorful worlds are, I (foolishly) thought them to be childish. My brother Alex Summerdown, however, had his other styles. He was checking on things like Tri-Gun, Code Geass, endless movies from Hio Myasaki and other things...
My point is, He threw me back in, and my definitions of anime shifted.

2: What gold did I find?
I'm actually pretty proud of what I found in this genre. (When Alex offered I pick a new series to watch, that was like some kinda rite of passage or something.) I found such names as GunXGrave, Another, Cowboy Beebop, Ninja Soul, Death Note, Shi-ki...

3: What's my advice?
There's one anime series of every flavor. Don't be detered by the cutesy non-threatening big eyes and pretty colors. In my experience, things tend to get a hue darker if you look in the right places. Also, there's is some cussin' in the original subbed shows than in these various dubs.

1.) Where did I start?

I grew up watching Toonami in the early 2000s which got me interested in the medium and I eventually experienced shows like Full Metal Alchemist (2003) and Fooly Cooly which solidified me as a fan and made me aware that the medium had so much more to offer, even if I was too young to comprehend it at the time.

2.) What gold did I find?

Over the past couple of years, I've discovered incredibly experimental films such as Angel's Egg and Mind Game and the director of the latter; Masaaki Yuasa, has become one of my all time favorite directors in anime and I can definitely recommend his entire body of work to anyone looking for something with a unique visual style and an unconventional narrative.

3.) What's my advice?

Be as open minded as you possibly can and try to broaden your tastes in anime, it's the best possible way for you to find series you may consider masterpieces of storytelling or though provoking character pieces that might force you into a state of self introspection or even change your worldviews, it's very much possible and an experience I think everyone should have at least once.

1. Where did you find?

I started watching anime around 2006, it was pokemon. I liked how the anime perspective mad me feel like I was watching something different. I watch a lot of anime and some of my favorites are fairy tail, one piece, and Naruto. Fairy tail is my all time favorite.

What gold did I find?

Out of the whole lot of anime I found, there was nice stories, comedic romance, deep stories, and a lot of fighting and action. The anime and manga I watch need to look good and Fairy tail does the best out of the others.

What is my advice?
What type of theme do you like in anime? Romance, mystery, action, comedic, mixed, etc. This helps you determine what anime you will watch in a long time. Do you like short or long series? There are a lot of anime with few episodes while one piece and fairy tail are very long. I think anyone should try anime because it fits in so much genres, its sure to satisfy any type of person.

  1. Where did you start?
I mainly started with Naruto but I got into Death Note later on and it made me very interested in anime. Still haven't found an anime that tops Death Note tho ;___;
  1. What gold did you find?
Deathnote ;~;
  1. What's your advice?
You should find a genre you're interested in and start from there. It's really about what interests you~ I found that looking into the genre I like was more engaging than asking people, unless you specify a genre for them :p ummm, one more thing, I think music is really important in an anime. I only seem to like Anime where the music is really amazing. Like Naruto, Deathnote, AOT, etc... :p (But that's just me)

1. Where did I start?

I started with DBZ, Pokèmon, Digimon, One Piece, Astro Boy, and Beyblade.

2. What gold did I find?

I found gold of which there are shows with a lot of character depth, research from the staff, and focusing on atmosphere.
(FMA:B and NGE) (Will start watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes)

3. What advice could I give you?

Don't listen to the mainstream audience. Look for shows where you can take some things away from it and that you can identify what the characters feel. And stay away from any anime these studios make: A1 Pictures and Gonzo. (Except for NHK)
