anyone got any tips for me cuz i keep losing

If we're talking competitive, learn how your character plays and depending on the specific one, perhaps look into how to chain combos with them and the like. Some like Marth have a meteor smash available to them if you know how to play them right, so that's another thing to consider

1. Do not just keep spamming Smash attacks. They take a bit to charge up, and leave you vulnerable to faster attacks. Rack up damage with specials and neutrals, and then deliver a coup de grace with a well-placed Smash.
2. Shield often: Can't stress this enough. Some players who do not shield at all are easy pickings for any powerful attack. Shields can change the tide of battle very easily, and they can also be used to roll out of the way.
3. Know what your character does best. Eg: Litle Mac is a fighter who is VERY powerful on the ground, but he has THE worst recovery in the game as well as his weakness is his aerial movement.
4. Spice up your game. Do not simply go on using the same attack over and over again. If you do that, those attacks will lose power, plus you become insanely predictable.

Basically everything Ali said.

Though I would add if you're just starting out, I would try to use a character that isn't overly hard to master. For me those two were Duck Hunt and Bowser Jr., as they have pretty simple movesets. Plus they're fun to use which is a plus.

First: Find a character that is easy to use and if the move set suits you.
Second: Practice. This will be the only way that you will get better at Smash, and when you are confident, step up to the plate and do a online match and earn bucket loads of gold! So that way you can do higher level Classic Smash and get a bunch of trophies too!
Third: Play with friends. You can get much experience and skill by playing with a friend localy. You can exchange info and laughs by playing with another human being. Contact is a good way to become better in most situations.
Fourth: Buy a amiibo. For 13USD, you can get a personal punching bag to let your inner fighter out out. With different strategies on each match, it will help you adapt to how people will play when you play with another person.
Finally, read up on your character's stats. Knowing strengths and weaknesses will help if you want to get deep into what you can do with the character.

Good luck!

Like what everyone said. I would play as all of them and see which character feels natural to play as (for me was Roy back in Melee but now it's Link). And just play as that character learning each skill and come up with your own strategy for battling. I'd practice with the computer players too starting at one and all the way up to the last level.

Example of strategy, I will focus on one character/player (usually the strongest opponent) and I try to knock him her off as many times as I can to ensure I place it's mean I know but my siblings are outrageous when they win.... Also when I'm Link occasionally I would get everyone together and use a move that sends everyone flying (his spin attack).

It also helps if you try and stay on the platform as you can, being blasted off is usually hard to avoid when up against stronger punching characters but do your best.

But be prepared to strike first in Sudden Death be ready but be careful too so you don't get exploded by Bob-Bombs. I usually get caught up in the moment and run straight into a bomb :D

But more importantly have fun while you do it, you don't Smash Bros to become a game you can't stand. :)

It's important to be defensive until you see an opening. I used to lose even to the computer because I wouldn't shield. Being offensive is pretty cool otherwise but it isn't the best strategy in Smash 3D. Especially when you're near an opponent, any time you're not moving you should be shielding :nailbiting:

First, fiddle around with characters. Find if you like ground battling, Air fighting, or many other things. Then try to find move sets that make you feel comfortable. Simple stuff like that, then try to find ways to combo, don't forget to shield allot, it really helps you in a pinch, also dodging can be good to sneak up for following attacks. That's what I can list, try to find things yourself to truly become good.

Mostly what they said, but I can think of a coupe of exceptions.

First, you don't HAVE to shield, but it is useful. I normally just dodge. It works on the Master Core too.

Second, you can spam the smash attack if you use it right. It's all in the timing.

Just come up with a strategem that works for YOU. You don't have to follow every piece of advice, and that includes mine. :p

Work on your grab game. While it is important to shield, too much shielding becomes predictable, and I've punished opponents for that with some quick grabs. Adding in some grabs can really add to the damage, some grabs can even KO opponents.
Try not to always use the same recovery move when getting back on stage. If you have multiple moves in your arsenal that can help you reach the stage, use them, or even grab tethers like Link or ZSS.
Try to learn some advanced techniques and incorporate them into your playstyle. Sometimes a move that you know that your opponent doesn't can be the game changer. You can Google some techniques, search them up on YouTube, or go to the Smash Bros subreddit on Reddit.

For awhile, I would only jump and try to do aerial attacks, but I would never counter or use my shield. Until I finally realized that I'm never getting anywhere in this game if I don't try to block/counter. So I went in to training and I practiced and..I still suck xD BUT the point is: you have to be good at doing everything. When countering, timing is everything. you also have to know when to grab and block appropriately.

Everything @AliTheAce said.

Also, keep in my that aerials do more damage than ground attacks. So be sure to use one if you need to launch somebody really bad :p
