Too Many Fire Emblem Characters?

So as we all know, Corrin - a character from the upcoming Fire Emblem game - was one of the 3 characters that were announced to be added into Smash 4. I'm sure that many of you watched the Direct and sighed at the fact that, yet again, another Fire Emblem swordsman/woman was added into the game. Even the creator Masahiro Sakurai himself admits he felt that there were too many Fire Emblem characters already in Smash, but “after speaking with the development staff, he was assured that Corrin would make for an interesting fighter,”. Including both of Robin's genders, there are 6 Fire Emblem characters in Smash thus far.

Let's all take into account that Corrin is not the Ballot character so I feel that people that say Corrin has "taken" the spot of the person they voted are indeed incorrect. But, personally I do feel that rather than another Fire Emblem character they could have brought back a Veteran for instance Wolf, who I do not see that much of an issue to bring back. There is Starfox Zero coming out next year for Wii U too and Star Wolf is confirmed for that game, so I was quite baffled at the fact he wasn't a returning Veteran such as Lucas, Roy, Dr.Mario and Mewtwo.

This is just my opinion on the subject at hand; an excessive amount of FE reps in Smash 4. I have nothing against Corrin as a character, but feel like 7 reps that are all swordfighters is a bit much. I guess we could say the same for the 6 Pokemon in Smash, but they all have different and unique play styles and attributes.
How do you feel about it?

My opinion on this is A negative one.I agree with you on bringing back a veteran,But if I was bringing back Wolf,I would nerf him a bit.Wolf was really OP and nintendo wanted sm4sh to be more balanced.But, I would bring back Ice Climbers instead.Ik what nintendo said about the ice climbers but when you make dlc you have more room to use because it's downloadable.Anyways, I would bring back a veteran and not bring corrin in.

Sora if I were to bring back one it's Ice Climbers too, but I say Wolf because the Ice Climbers aren't possible to program for Smash 3DS, they work for Wii U but not for the 3DS. It's a shame Popo and Nana aren't around

I'm not sure how I feel about the FE characters, I don't mind Corrin because its set seems to be very different from the rest of the swordmen. If there's an extra Fe character, it's Lucina IMO, she could just be an alternate Marth costume and I don't think nobody would have been sad because of that

More clones more time, and i wont say that half of the characters should be clones, no, but one or 2 wont hurt right?

To be fair I feel that clones should just be alternate costumes but I guess some people are glad to see these fighters in a game, in excess or not

Do I think we have too many Fire Enblem smash reps? Yes. Do I think it matters at all? No. I think people are just taking the Lucina is a clone thing too far. Marth, Ike, Robin, heck, even Corrin are all original and Roy is pretty different, too. Lucina is kinda like a "nerf or nothing" cenario, meaning she wasn't a thing that took up too much development time, and they just could of just scraped her all together and it angers me when people say she took up a slot. They took their time to add in a little bonus for FE fans, even if it isn't very different, but they just didn't have the time for anything more extravagant, (Possibly Lyn) because they knew they added enough FE characters and had some idea for a couple new additions in the future, anyways.

The one thing you said that gets at me is the inclusion of Wolf. I rather have Snake back. As for the inclusion of Corrin, what can I say? After seeing his trailer, I was impressed by the way he plays. Plus, I do like swordfighters and those with counters. I actually find Corrin to be a great fit in the game.

I don't really think that there is too much Fire Emblem characters. I feel like the amount the is there (including Corrin) makes a decent amount. All the FE characters are quite unique in their own way. Maybe not Lucina but she has her differences from Marth (and I'll leave it at that, so not to restate what Taiiny said)

Besides, Corrin is really an awesome character to have. Despite the fact that anyone wanted certain characters, the new ones aren't that disappointing >.<
