So i finally replaced my 2ds after about a month of no ssb3ds. Now that i finally am able to do something, i have to update. I started way over 2 hours ago and i am still at 41 percent. Do updates usually take this long, I've never had to wait over half an hour for a smash update. Did anyone else have to wait that long for the new dlc updates?

Not at all. For me, the download of one update is usually a couple of minutes. At least no more than ten when the update is going fast. But you did say that you haven't played Super Smash Bros. in a month so it is expected. But jeez. 2 hours and at 41%? You sure must've missed at lot. How fast is your update going? Are you getting three or four orbs?

That was bad, i think the weather was interfering, because after around 60 percent, the rest took around 5 minutes.
Oh yeah, i usually got 4 orbs so maybe there was a lot of stuff to download too.

It may have been because of something else that might have been using your wi-fi connection during that time, or maybe something else besides that weather. Lots of things affect the wi-fi speed. My update took about 30 minutes because there were some ups and downs in speed.

At east you finished though :p

We're talking about Smash Updates. They're usually around 250+ Mb on 3DS, and around 1.5GB+ on Wii U
So, I could say this is normal, but, considering I've managed to download one over 3G and that it took me only 30 minutes, I'd probably ask you to check your Wi-Fi connection. Maybe somebody is consuming your whole bandwidth, resulting in a slow download.

I also haven't played Smash in ages, and decided to update. It took around 30 mins, I think my internet was dropping a little. I was getting a little annoyed, as past updates didn't really take that long. After updating, my 3DS was on very low battery. Just update regularly and don't take breaks from the game. :wacky:

I do share wifi with 2 cousins next door. So that may be an addition to the weather. But i think the weather had a larger effect because yesterday night, they came over, and i tried a for glory smash battle, and it was ridiculous. The count down was so bad, it took minutes to finish. Sadly no one quit the match until like 5 seconds into the actual game (actually like 5 minutes), but those 5 minutes were terrible. Today the weather is great, and I'm playing for glory with no lag. But then that may be because my cousins are probably still asleep.

That's true, though you can't exclude the possibility that one of your opponents had a worse connection than yours: when playing Smash online, you'll play in the same conditions as the guy with the worst connection, due to the server seeking to synchronize all the clients.

Plus, as you pointed out, shared Wi-Fi meant that maybe somebody was already on it, reducing bandwidth. Otherwise, another final case: Nintendo's servers were crowded. We're in December after all, tons of people tend to get consoles and games at this point of the year, so, this could be likely.
