A place to talk about Visual Novels !

For those who don't know what's a visual novel, here's the definition:
Visual Novel:

A Visual Novel is a game that acts like a novel. No RPG things, no 3D open-world at 60 FPS, forget about it.
Visual Novels are more known in Japan, where most of the indie gaming franchises have Visual Novels.

The difference between a novel and a Visual Novel is that Visual Novels can be made by anybody, using a program that allows creation of them (most of them being freeware), and Visual Novels allows more 'liberty' with scripts (depends on the program) and choices.

Visual Novels very often uses manga-style characters, and stories.

So, if you want to try some, I'd suggest you to google 'Visual Novel', because I don't know a lot of them...
Same if you want to make your visual novels, except there's two engines that are well-known for this task, called Ren'Py and NScripter (They are free) (I'm going off-topic, it's not good)

So, now, if you have tried some, feel free to share your impressions !

Never heard of them...sounds interesting, I'll check them out now

Played some, (mostly NSFW one )
Finished "Private Nurse", "Shuffle!", "Fate Stay Night" in progress

P.S. : not listing my NSFW done Visual Novel  its embarassing but I'll post it if you want to know

Well, there's actually good visual novels, and, some also combine a special gameplay with it (RPG elements, enigmas, etc.)

Yeah, I know that there's a lot of them roaming on the net >.<
But I'll try making one myself, as I just got a good tool (Ren'Py, as mentioned earlier) for it.

I read most of Type-Moon's, notably Tsukihime and Fate Stay Night. Well it's not NSFW, it's eroge actually. There's non-ero version of Tsukihime (PC) and non-ero of FSN (PSP).
I read the entire arc of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Umineko no Naku Koro ni (the best!), and now, Rose Guns Days (waiting for Season 3 complete translation from Witch-Hunt).

Well, that's why I avoid NSFW visual novels. But I still like to read some Visual Novels that features some video games franchises (yes it exists, even though most of them are fan-made).

And, the advantage with the Visual Novel is also the fact that you can have a background music. For horror (visual) novels, it's quite useful to imagine the ambiance.

I own three of them on my PSP - Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, Disgaea Infinite and Sweet Fuse: At Your Side. There are a lot of Japanese visual novels I'd love to read, but they never got translated.

@D4rkDragon I recommend you to read 07th Expansion release, from Higurashi to the recent Rose Guns Days. All of them are not eroge. Or 5pb's sci-fi adventure releases, from Chaos;Head to Robotics;Notes. And yes, VN's BGM is the 2nd best part that makes me love visual novel.
@Spinnerweb oh you read Sweet Fuse? Is it great?
