What do bottle caps do?

From what I've researched, bottle caps artificially raise a lv 100 pokemon's ivs (eg It makes their stats look like they are perfect, but in terms of hidden power, they are the same). I assume this is correct?

If so, then I'll be happy because all of my 3 perfect IV shinnies in or/as will finally be put to use!

That's correct. You can use bottle caps to raise a Pokemon stat's IV to 31 through hyper training. A gold bottle cap can be used to raise every stat of a Pokemon to 31 IVs.
