Personally I'd love to see them! Gen 4 is where I started, so it'd be nice to see them as remakes. Unfortunately I don't think it's coming anytime soon, since they haven't announced a main series game yet.

What do you guys think?

I'm hoping they'll come along soon; maybe within the next 2-3 main series entries (so, in 2020 maybe?). If they did it justice like they did Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, I'd be happy. I mean, Primal Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina? Yes please!
I'll be mainly interested to see how they revamp certain features new to generation IV; you've got the Sinnoh underground and secret bases, the Distortion World, the Poketch, (a much loved feature) etc.
Hopefully it'll have a really good battle frontier like Platinum did, and they can actually implement a proper Arceus event this time around.

Generation IV was really special and brought a lot of features to the table that we now take for granted. I know that when it does come around, however long it takes, they'll try and make sure it's done properly.

A few years ago I would have been pretty excited about the idea of a Gen 4 Remake. Diamond and Pearl are a good example of something possibly great with a bit of fixing (This is even more evident after Platinum's release, showing how much updating a few trainers, changing a few zones and fixing the engine a bit improved two of the worst games in the series to one of the best)

But with the release of ORAS and my recent replay of HGSS showed me how little Gamefreak does to actually improve their remakes, and more often than not, add unnecessary stuff that actually hinders the experience (with the only exception being FRLG, which still adds filler after the 7th gym for no reason)

Thus, I don't have high hopes for a Diamond and Pearl, unless Gamfreak drastically changes their game design policy.
I don't think a Diamond and Pearl remake would be as bad as the originals, but if they happen to be that way, I won't be surprised...

Yeah, I'd love to see some of those old features come back, as well as some kinda upgrade for the legendaries? And megas for the starters would be great! Though I don't have high hopes for mega Infernape, which is unfortunate since it's one of my favorite Pokemon :/

Yeah, tbh it could end up like that. If they did remake them, I assume they'd be more based on Platinum, as most people seem to agree that it's better (I've actually never played Diamond/Pearl, I've only played Platinum, so I dunno).

While HGSS took from both Gold/Silver and Crystal, ORAS took nothing from Emerald aside from the Delta Episode and the Battle Resort reference. It went as far as removing trainers added in Emerald, changin trainer's teams back to RS (including gym leaders), and removing several gameplay aspects added in Emerald

Oof, guess they probably won't then. What exactly was wrong with Diamond and Pearl? Maybe it's possible it could be fixed while still being based off of the original 2?

Quite a lot actually, To begin with, the Original Sinnoh had a pretty shallow pool of Pokémon, like Ponyta and Chimchar being the only two fire Pokémon available in the game (Just look at Flint's Diamond and Pearl team). It also lacked the pre evolutions for many of the new Pokémon introduced (Like Magmar, Electabuzz, Gligar, etc), being the only Pokémon game that introduces new Pokémon, yet makes them unavailable natively. It had an specially rough level curve, if you were not fighting absolutely every trainer in your way, then you would need to grind in the tall grass. Consider that Platinum greatly reduces most trainers' pokemon levels and yet is still considered one of the most challenging (yet fair) Pokémon games ever. DP also forces you to backtrack A LOT, like the Ghost gym which was moved from the fifth gym spot in DP to the third in PT just to diminish the backtracking.

Finally the game is really slow. Like REALLY.

HP bars take ages to drain, and just get slower the more HP the Pokémon have. Every random encounter takes an eternity, every battle takes to long to start, every move animation is way longer than needed, the surfing speed is the same as the walking speed, and even the text is too slow. The text speed in DP set to fast is slower than the text speed in Platinum set to normal.

If there is one change they will make from the base games to the remakes, it will be this one. Hopefully...

Ooh yeah that's not good
The lack of available pokemon would probably be fixed due to the introduction of pokemon from newer generations, which I believe they've done in the other remakes? Not 100% sure about that. The speed seems easily fixable as well. The order of the gyms + the level curve would likely stay about the same, though.

They did add new Pokémon to ORAS, but where either evolutions from already available Pokémon (Gallade), base forms from the new megas (Buneary) or post game/legendaries. However, Hoenn didn't have availability issues like Sinnoh did, the only exception being the surf areas, which the remake didn't even touch

Honestly we don't need it. I'd rather replay D/P/Pt over again than to have a remake. The Pokémon were unique and creative. The main mechanics like the physical/special move changes are all there. There were a lot of useful items and berries introduced although I will never understand how the Tower Tycoon and Cynthia are like the only characters in the game to get rare high stat Pokémon that mesh well (Heatran is a legend in my book why is he even allowed in Gen 4 Battle Tower). But other than that I like the variety of useful mons you can catch and the story mode alone is why I play the game. If we added more Pokémon the game would be a mess and there would be more rare Pokémon that would be a hassle to catch making completing the dex a nightmare unless there was another title beside it. I'd rather have D/P/Pt to be VC than to see a reboot. A reboot might make the game too easy.

I would love to see Diamond/Pearl remakes soon. They'll certainly incorporate if not all, then at least some of Platinum's story to the plot. ORAS may not have done this like HGSS did, but they still put importance on Rayquaza as the leader of Groudon and Kyogre like Emerald does, while referencing events that had yet to come, like Wallace taking over Steven's position. Personally, I would be fine if they didn't include Battle Frontier either, but that's only because I wasn't a big fan of it to begin with.

The biggest draw of Diamond and Pearl when it was released was the (international) advent of Wi-Fi connectivity, and consequently the GTS. There was also a bigger focus on the multiplayer games now that Game Freak had access to the DS wireless local connection, letting players join together without the need for a cable or adapter. I remember a big chunk of my time in these games was spent exploring the underground with friends and going on GTS from time to time, even after the game had exhausted its post-content. Platinum renewed this with their online plaza rooms, which would cycle between different Pokemon for the theme.

Diamond, Pearl and Platinum also had a big focus on its lore, which tied in with the main plot. To be fair, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald had these ties as well, but the lore was a lot more simple and fragmented in those games, and was there to serve the plot. Sinnoh's excess lore was there, whether you wanted to learn about it or not. It was interesting to tie together the pieces of Sinnoh's mythos, as well as the small stories that reflect the history in Pokemon. They fleshed out the world you were a part of.

Incidentally, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum share both these traits with Gen II, to some extent. Crystal happened to be the first Pokemon game to use internet connectivity, albeit with cell phones and only in Japan. Johto was also teeming with history and lore, from Sprout Tower's column supposedly being a 100 ft Bellsprout, to Burned Tower being the origin of the legendary beasts, to Illex Forest and its shrine.

Pokemon Platinum was extremely fun for me. Was probably my favorite pokemon game when I was young.

That might be pretty cool. However, this is coming from a guy who doesn’t even play Pokémon, so please don’t take this statement seriously. xP
