I bought myself the new Nintendo 3DS recently!
The latest DS that I've had was the lite so I have no idea how different it is from the original 3DS... But I really like it! I haven't had any other handhelds either.. so you probably shouldn't make any decisions based on my opinion but yeah! I think the new 3DS is great! :D
But, what exactly did you need help with?

Pros: shorter game loading times, battery life about 1.5 hours longer, has c-stick for camera adjustment (if you need to adjust it) Cons: fairly big, slightly larger than iPhone 6+, c-stick is very pressure-sensitive, very slow browser. I am actually writing this on my New 3DS XL Majora's Mask edition

Oh and it is fairly pixelated, as is the normal 3DS XL

I would like to get the new one, but I'm happy with mine.

I only want the new one because I like that the load is way faster, the 3D doesn't do that weird out of focus thing, and I like that the buttons are colorful. Though I could do without the amiibo part because I don't own any amiibos.

To summarize,

Getting the new 3ds XL means you'll have better processing power (for games to load faster; like smash), C-Stick for better controls in certain games, amiibo-support and focusing 3d effect. There's also exclusive games :3

It's worth to get if you really need to upgrade your old 3ds.

I think New 3DS XL will worth it because it has many advantages over old 3DS or its XL variants, like having C-Stick to add more controls in Smash, and having ZL and LR buttons as the bonus. Besides, it could start up the games faster, including Smash, and you can quit playing Smash/newer Monster Hunter games with the Home button faster without need to reboot like in old 3DSes.

You can also play with automatic brightness setting, which means you can play your games in dark areas without worrying about the screen being too bright, and you can also utilize your Amiibos straight away to your handheld, so if you want to upgrade to New 3DS (regular or XL), it'll be worth it.
