So, if you saw @Marc's post on this way back when (https://nintenpedia.com/forum/threads/cooking-mama-cookstar.38766/) then you'll know that a cooking mama game was going to come out on the switch..

Well.. It came out. I don't blame you if you had no idea. It was released physically and digitally late march with no announcements, but within hours, the eshop page was taken down and stores where told to hand back copies and stop selling them. For a while, no one knew why, theories spread and the internet caught fire with theorising what the hell had happened. Blog posts about the game on the publisher's page where scrubbed, any mention of the game on there was scrubbed, the famed PS4 version of the game is still unknown about to this day..

One main theory that spread was that the game was mining crypto currency on your switch as you played, this was very quickly debunked though as it's very easy to check. the theory was based on part of the promotional things where one of the features was going to be that the game was going to have blockchain elements to it. This was later explained by a dev however to be something one of the higher ups said because it was buzzwords and he thought that it'd get investors in but he had no idea what blockchains where. They where never going to be in the game in the first place.

Just now, the IP holders of cooking mama, Office Create, finally gave a public statement on the issue which you can read here: http://www.ofcr.co.jp/ofcr/ImportantNotice_en.html

There's some hillarious things in it, most notably the sentence "This was an unauthorized release in breach of Planet’s contract with Office Create.". Basically, the game came out illegally. Office create themselves also still don't know whats happening with the PS4 version.

This has been a hell of a ride to follow though and just shows how easy it is to put a game on the eshop, nintendo would have been told to step in, but it was until the game was actually released was something done about it. Now the devs are in deep trouble, and the publishers are trying to save face by scrubbing out the games' existance. If you own a copy of it then congrats, that'll be worth quite a bit in the future so take good care of it. I have strong doubts the game will ever get a second release.
