Honestly, the only retro Nintendo console with a solid amount of JRPGs is the SNES, mainly because it has an amazing amount of 3rd party support. If you need some JRPGs to play, try out Super Mario RPG, Breath of Fire I and II, Earthbound, Terranigma, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger.

Like @Lios mentioned, if you would like to play some good JRPG games, then you should give the SNES a try. It has a good number of Final Fantasy games, and also the long-forgotten Chrono-Trigger games.
The NES, however is also a solid choice. Although the games are older and a bit worse in graphics, they still are very enjoyable and memorable.
