We all know that in the video games they are the last challenge before the champion battle, but what exactly do they do in the anime...at the pokemon league i dont think they enter and how do you even become an elite 4 member or champion (btw after you beat the games the champion is still thereo_O ) im probably over thinking this but thought i'd make a thread anyway XD

Thats what I excatcly think sometimes what is use of elite four in pokemon anime but I also think when person won pokemon league the only he or she will able to challenge after he or she defeat all elite four then the champion

Honestly I have watched the anime series the majority of my life and not once have I noticed the Elite Four. Honestly they don't pop up only in Pokémon Origins do they have role.

Ashs' story they don't make an appearance.

well in ash's story i've seen them a few times, like when cynthia battled one of them, i forgot who and they've mentioned the elite 4 but not too often, rumor says the winner of the pokemon league gets to go on to face the elite 4 then the champion like in the video games idk but i think it seems like the most reasonable one :p

They serve as a reminder that Ash is actually one of the weakest trainers ever (watch the Hoenn episodes of Drake vs. Ash / Agatha vs. Ash or the Sinnoh one Bertha vs. Ash). Also, in the anime, after you get 8 badges, you earn the right to compete in the Pokemon League, BUT it's not the ACTUAL league, it's a conference (eg: in Sinnoh it was Lily of the Valley Conference) and once you beat it, you are the conference champion and earn the right to challenge the actual Pokemon League (the Elite 4 and the region Champion) and ONLY if you beat that you are the champion, otherwise you do the conference thing all over. That's basically it, so Ash won't become champ any time soon!

i wish they'd show some progress... because sometimes its like ash is the best! then other times your so disapointed that he's been the main character of a show for over 15 years, i dont watch it daily but if its on i'll watch it :3

I personally love the elite four because tell the truth every time you see that ash never even made it in to the indigo league is funny. He made it to like the tournament quilifier they do. That's when you think that's what you get when you can't beat brock.

We thought charizard was disobedient or just was the only pokemon that had sense. It's like I beat blastoise when you had pikachu and bulbasaur, now you want me to face another opponent that has an advantage over me. Nope.

Well, i watch the new episodes (new in japan) as soon as they come out and it's always the same thing: Ash is 10, goes to the new region to challenge the gyms, loses by a really weak pokemon (usually unevolved) belonging to either one of the first two gym leaders or a "rival" (as that's how Ash sees them), trains for a day beats them if it's a gym or loses a close bttle if against the rival, goes around the region collecting badges, spends 80 episodes doing nothing and 10 battling, loses in the pokemon league conference in the best 16/8/4, goes back home, regresses to a 10 year old again and goes off to the next region!

One explanation for that is that every time he travels to a new region, he leaves all Pokémons but Pikachu at home, meaning he has to start over again, and gives the audience a chance to get to know the new Pokémons of that region. It may be a cheap trick, but it's clever and effective.

The E4 sadly has no point in the anime other than being encountered by the main group or making short appearances in the anime and don't serve a purpose except that the winner of the Pokemon league gets to fight the Pokemon champion to take he/r spot as the champion. I don't know why they make the trouble of the champion in the anime, it is so wired.
