Just started like five minutes ago and so far it looks good. I think we all start at once and it goes from there until there is a winner. Maybe there can be breaks. It looks cool though.

I really like tourney mode. I really like the idea of battling real people in a tournament. But I also wish that there was a tourney mode for 3ds. I think most of the smash bros players are gonna enjoy tourney mode. I think that this is one of he best game modes on smash bros.

Indeed. This can also help Pedia make real tournaments with WiiU Tourneys. Maybe that should be a must? @Marc

I don't think user-made tournaments were worth the eight-month wait. Not customizable enough, no brackets, no teams, not even one-on-ones as far as I know? What's the point?

The Regular Tourney mode, on the other hand, I've yet to play. I'm in a lobby now starting in 14 minutes, and this may be more along the lines of what tourney mode should have been. Still, not giving the ability to use brackets in user-made tournaments - especially not friends only or locked tournaments - practically invalidates the mode. As always, tournament mode seems too basic for actual, honest-to-goodness tournaments. I wouldn't mind, but I'm doubly bitter that we waited eight months for it.

If Regular Tourney is what I think it is, though, I have no problems with that mode other than difficulty getting in, which is to be expected right now.

Tourney mode is really fun, it shows me how I can get better... I always lose the first/second round lol xD It's lag free a lot too... I wish they had more rooms though lol. They get taken too quickly.

I only like auto tourney the other are bad. I simply dont like to play agains 4 players, 1vs1 is way better. And for the auto tourneys, they made 2 stock 3 minutes, thats not much. They could have givnen us more options for example character bans or something, or bigger tourney with loosers brakets. But that would be something else.

I like the idea of having tourney mode because you can fight a group of people with set conditions so nobody can change it and bend the rules. I honestly don't play tourney that much but it seems pretty competitive. Also, what do you guys get if you get 1st place? Some gold? I never gotten first place so I don't know anything.

Honestly the new Tourney Mode in SSB4 has its ups and downs, but I feel I should directly point them out.

- Firstly, the little communities that are apparently considered "tournaments". They're just like Mario Kart 7 communities. Not actual tournaments, just crappy groups that people can compete in to be number one. Let alone, you can't even 1v1 in those. They're all FFA matches. In addition to that, you have to wait almost two full minutes once you join one to give other people time to join. So you almost have like, no way out of not doing a FFA match.

- Regular tournaments. Not that bad, I suppose. I rate 7/10. There's a few things that irk me about it though. Firstly, waiting. Not to sound like a huge impatient prick here, but honestly waiting for a tourney to start is annoying. At the very least, they could have gave you the training CPU that you see before you enter For Glory matches. That, or atleast give us the ability to leave the waiting room so we can go play a couple rounds of FG while we wait.

To actually go in depth about certain tourney types, most of them (merely 75%) are annoying For Fun tourneys. Most are FFA's, but there's a couple 1v1 For Fun tourneys that aren't the worst. The other tourneys are For Glory tourneys which can consist of FFA's or 1v1s (No teams, sadly).
Speaking of For Glory tourneys, the biggest thing that makes me mad is the win criteria. While I honestly prefer stock matches over timed matches as much as the next guy, I absolutely can't stand the stock matches for this. First off, you only get three minutes with two stocks, compared to normal 1v1 For Glory mode, where you get five minutes.

But it doesn't stop there. While you have to hurry and win within three minutes, there's also the event of time running out. The tiebreaking system is the worst thing about this tourney mode as a whole. Honestly, I would have been fine with cheapo Sudden Death, and I even would have been fine with "lower percentage wins" like in Melee, BUT NO.

Oh no, what's apparently better to Sakurai in the event that time runs out is pretty much "whoever is the most active player wins the match". You could be on 0% to your opponent's 135% and still lose the match if they got more kills than you. If the number of kills in the same, it goes to whoever gave more damage the whole match. Unfair. May as well just make it a timed match.

Now, from what I hear, Nintendo plans on starting their own grand tourneys soon. Let's see how bad this will turn out.

I'm pretty disappointed in the tourney mode as a whole. Other small reasons include the fact that you can't even make offline tourneys, the fact that you have 40 seconds to choose a character when your tourney doesn't start for another 20 minutes or something, the fact that you can't save replays, and the fact that it doesn't show the sandbag's damage while you're training.
