I was up against a Japanese player, her Salamence vs. my Celesteela. The Mence was down to about 10 HP, and my Celesteela was about 1/4 HP.
The Salamence used Draco Meteor. I knew this was it. Celesteela could not handle that. But it survived with just 1 HP left. So I managed to kill it with Heavy Slam, and won the match. That was so lucky.
I've also had many battles where I could Iron Head flinch the opposing player who would otherwise kill Metagross.
