Both having almost the exact features and both being only on the 3DS. One can't help but wonder which one is better.
Swapnote having spotpass discontinued and only having streetpass functionality many people who have close neighbors with 3DSs, are friends online, and have swapnote. Though swapnote's internet functionality being discontinued angered many people over the years Nintendo decided to produce swapdoodle a quite similar application to swapnote but it offers doodle lessons as well as pens to be bought with real money online. You can also increase the ink limit on swapdoodle (by buying). Swapdoodle online has spotpass which is a major plus for friends who live 1,ooo of miles away from each other.

Swapnote pros and cons: It's free. Only streetpass allowed. No online purchases, ect.
Swapdoodle pros and cons: App is free. Only spotpass. Most items require online purchases. Badges can be put on notes, ect.

Swapdoodle just barely made it to my favourite over Swapnote, only because of the nice and calm style it has going for it (not that Swapnote doesn't have that, it just seems more charming in Swapdoodle). It really gets me relaxed and excited to draw (in a tranquil sort of way):)

Swapnote is dead to me. I mean, really, I don't live in that busy a neighborhood, and most people here prefer Xbox over Nintendo anyway.

So Swapdoodle is better, no contest.
