I know how you guys feel, "A 6th Fire Emblem character?!" I know Fire Emblem feels overrepesented in Smash, but there's a good reason. Sure, because Sakurai likes Fire Emblem and the new game, but there is another reason. Months ago, I made a thread celebrating the 25th anniversary of Fire Emblem. So probably Corrin is in because it's Nintendo's way of celebrating Fire Emblem's 25th anniversary.

I think its mainly due to how Nintendo pulled a dying series out of a ditch. Think about it, the fire emblem series has had horrible sales and ever since the radiant games sold horribly and the D's remakes were mediocre, the fanbase was pretty small. FE awakening was supposed to be the last game, but it magically sold 1 million copies due to being the best or second best 3ds game. Suddenly, everyone wanted the series. That's why path of radiance now is so expensive, due to its huge demand its now selling for $120 a pop, case not guaranteed. Now Nintendo realises how much potential the series has, so they are maxing out on FE characters so they can advertise the series, in the form of DLC characters. Same goes for Pit, a series dead for a decade, now with uprising, kid Icarus has a new hope.

Nintendo is going all out on FE: Fates, so it only makes sense that they add Corrin. Even with Awakening, the amount of people who know about Fire Emblem is limited, with the exception of people who play SSB. Since Nintendo is spending so much on Fates, they want to advertise it to get the fullest amount of attention.

Personally, I don't see why Lucina came in the first place, though. They could have had Tiki, or maybe even Sayri or Anna(who appears in nearly every FE game), instead. Ah well

I think that I kinda disagree with that. I feel like Fire Emblem: Fates was actually gonna sell well anyways even if Corrin wasn't a DLC character in Sm4sh. Why need more advertising of the series if pretty much everyone knows the series now and there are characters in the game? (Lucina and Robin) The FE series has gotten much better here since Awakening.

So the reason would simply be that Corrin was added to celebrate the coming of Fates :p
Also, don't take what I said tooo seriously ^^'
