Now I know what your saying looking at this "wait! WHAT! Mario kart 8 is truly the definitive version!" But wait right there Good sir or Madame, I have something to say, here are the reason Mario kart 7 is still a great game!

1.It's portable, Unlike mario kart 8, Mario kart 7 is portable means you can play it anywhere at any time!

2. The Courses! while Mario kart 8 has dlc and New Courses nothing beats the Courses (at least in my opinion) of Mario kart 7, Whether you on Rainbow Road or Just on a basic track, your sure to have a fun time.

3. The reach for Gold. The Gold Kart is a part of mario kart 8, but nothing beats the strive to get it in 7, mainly because you had to be Great at online

Actually, you can get it by collecting 20,000 coins. A true, hard challenge indeed. The reason I love Mario Kart 7 very much is because of how it's basically a portable version of Mario Kart Wii, which is the best Mario Kart I played before having a 3DS and the game.

While Mario Kart 7 is really fun and the online is still pretty active even after all this time, only doing one thing kind of gets boring. While you don't need to play a lot or anything like that, it certainly doesn't feel like a game you will spend a lot of time playing constantly! It's more like of the kind of games you play for 15-20 minutes when you are bored or waiting for something, but not much more than that. Perhaps that would change if there was a DLC compatibility though.

I agree with these totally, it's a great game that should be cherished more. After Mario Kart 8 came out, no one really thinks about 7. I still love 7. In fact, I like the portability like you said, I just wish you could play online when away ;). And the DLC is what REALLY gets 7 thrown down. I mean, it's cool that 8 has DLC, but no big deal. Also, I enjoy the fact that 8 had gold too, it's just you could use gold much more in 8. I just like 7 way better though, I'm with ya bro. With these reasons, 7 is better.

For all the reasons you listed, Mario Kart 7 stills holds up. Since it's portable, it's really fun to play with friends on the go, which I really enjoy. I still need to unlock the Golden Kart, and it's insanely hard. The difficulty is high, and it has great replay ability. Defiantly a great title in the Mario Kart series.

To be honest I thought the reason MK7 still held up was because it comes as a 'free' bundle with 3DS systems and it's still a pretty okay game so there's no reason to 'not' play it, and then still decide to buy another one unless you're a hardcore fan. I don't play much MK--heck my last game was for the N64--so I don't know a lot of the differences, but I still play this one that was given to me.
I'm not sure how unlocking works in MK8, but it's definitely the main thing that makes me think about MK7..

I agree getting the Gold Parts was the main reason why I played Mario Kart 7 for so long. The internet isn't as laggy on MK7 compared to other games either so that's the main reason why I play now if I wanted to. The controls are my favorite out of any of the Mario Karts by far as well and in most of the others I'm falling off the tracks because I am so used to how MK7 feels.

I don't play Mario Kart 7 every day but if I had to choose, Mario Kart 7 would be my favorite game played on 3DS. If you're playing online, things can get intense, especially when you never know when a blue shell will hit you.

Still fun online and being able to play anywhere at anytime is a huge plus

Though some people thought that Mario Kart 8 would mean that Mario Kart 7 will hardly continue, it's not that way.Mario Kart 8 has tons of great tracks and a lot more characters plus the new 200 cc, Mario Kart 7 has a few tracks better than those in 8 and a lot fun to play. Though sometimes, it might get a bit boring and it might feel you are repeating the same thing over and over.

Another could simply be that a person has a 3DS but doesn't have a Wii U :p Mario Kart 7 does have its own differences to stages and other aspects than in the MK8 so it's still really viable to be active in terms of it's online racing. Ive always seen any people still playing it online :3

I certainly hope that it doesn't die out though :/

I don't know if Mario Kart 7 still holds up because I don't have it. Does it still have online and if it does how long will it last? I might consider buying it because it's portable. BUT Mario Kart 8 has DLC which has Link, Isabel, and someone else. (except the cat peach and tinnookie Mario.)
