Yes, you read right.

Nintendo has decided to put an end to the old WFC servers the 20th May 2014.
A lot of Wii and DS games are concerned, like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros Brawl, or the whole Pokemon series on the DS (From Diamond/Pearl to Black2/White2).

However, services like the Wii Shop Channel and the DSi Shop will remain open for a while (No official date for these services). Note that for games like Animal Crossing on the Wii, the Wii Speak will also be disabled, just like the Wii Speak Channel.

It's disappointing, but inevitable. No doubt Nintendo is hoping this move will bring more people over to Wii U and 3DS. Mario Kart 8 will launch shortly after, so it'll be interesting to see how its online setup is.

This was definitely bound to happen eventually. Although it's disappointing, we'll simply have to move on. All the same it makes one wonder how big the shock will be when they eventually disable Miiverse (assuming it doesn't carry on to the next gen)

i think they are doing this because there servers are getting over loaded with 3ds and wiiu. so they want people to convert to that ( 3ds wiiu). i hope that they enable internet for wii games but on wii u and ds games but on 3ds. because that would be nice for games like pokemon games on ds

The closing of the Nintendo Wi-Fi service makes sense to me. Technology advances rapidly and most people have already moved on to the gaming consoles that are more relative to the times (3DS, Wii U).

I used to play FIFA a lot on my Xbox 360. Each year, they make new version of the game. EA shuts down the online features of each game that is two years prior to the current release.

Most people ride along on the road of technology advancement and change. There is no point in continuing to run services that the majority of people no longer use. It's upsetting for the people who still use the service, but these are businesses. They are after the money, so they act accordingly.

I'm fine with them shutting down online on all of the games, but I do have a problem with them shutting down Pokémon Black/White 2. The game has only been out for 17 months. I would be more okay with them shutting it down if they didn't sell them in stores everyone goes in, like Target and Walmart, where right on the box it says Nintendo Wi-Fi. Oh well..

I must admit that shutting down the B/W 1/2 server (Yes, it's the same server) is not fair, because B2/W2 was released 17 months ago. But, hope isn't lost, as I have heard they are ways to set up a home-made GTS for trades.

Of course, I'm not sure that Nintendo agrees with this system, but at least, even if the B2/W2 server closes, people will still be able to trade through GTS. The only feature that will be "lost" is the Wi-Fi Battle, as well as the Wi-Fi part of the Battle Subway.

imo they should've let it open for about 2 more years so people can still play their Mario Karts and Smash Bros. on previous gen consoles so they don't have to get the next gen consoles and games ASAP. like a 6 month grace period or something like that.

This is a Wii/DS thread.

There are fan servers for those games you mentioned.

How did you not know if you read anything I posted recently?

I'm sorry @Artisan !!

I haven't actually seen the post because of one reasons:

1. I don't look at the Pokemon related stuff.

This is actually further evidenced by 2 of my recent posts as well!

From the post "Old Pokemon Games (GBA, GB) or New ones (DS, 3DS)"
Pokemon Moon is the only pokemon game I've seen someone play with my own eyes, so I guess it has to go to Pokemon Sun and Moon. I also heard it's the pokemon generation with the most Pokemon ever! W

From the post "Nintendo DS or Wii"
(which you recently commented on as well!)
3. Comparison to the DS
Sure, the DS has some amazing games too, and is backwards compatible with the GBA, but those are NOTHING when compared to the Wii library. First of all, I'm not a Pokemon fan. Secondly, I prefer home consoles. I play my Nintendo Switch in docked mode almost all the time.

4. SUPER MARIOOO
I'm actually more of a Mario kind of guy! (SHOCKER)

Also if you look through my postings, I haven't actually posted in Pokemon Universe! I only commented on three posts in that forum!!

-If you were a Pokemon, where would you live?
-Pokemon UNITE
-Pokemon Cafe Mix

But I'm really sorry that I made you feel that way!:sorry:
