Will the NX use a different WiFi play service from 3DS/Wii U?

This is just something that came to me. So you remember Nintendo WFC for DS and Wii? I was wondering that since WFC got cut off after the 3DS and Wii U established themselves, would the NX use the same online service (don't know the name of the 3DS/Wii U online play service >.<) as the 3DS/Wii U or will it use something different? And if it uses something different, will it mean that the 3DS and Wii U are gonna eventually lose their connection to online play? I don't think it would do that IF the NX was not made to be a next gen console, but if it is then we give the 3DS/Wii U WiFi play service another 3 years before finally taking it away I guess...

What are your thoughts about it? Will the NX use the same service as 3DS/Wii U or something different, leading to an eventual shutdown of the 3DS and Wii U's capability to play online?

Probably not. I don't see a reason as to why Nintendo would make the online of the NX run on something other than Nintendo Network. And if the NX is connected to miiverse, then it would only make sense that it would also run under Nintendo Network.

I hope Nintendo Network lasts for a lot longer than 3 more years lol. Nintendo would be a kill joy if they ended the online play so early... :panda:

Same Dx
I was just scared if the NX was gonna have some new thing and then people would play on that more and then they would shut down the one we have now and have it be like the DS and Wii all over again...

I don't think they will, and hope not anyway.

Ninty already has a fairly solid online architecture with Nintendo Network, starting from scratch would be stupid on their part.

Probably not. Nintendo already has Nintendo Network, and it is still pretty modern. Plus, it's confirmed the NX will have some way to connect to the Wii U and 3DS. So keeping Nintendo Network is perfect. So, no, Nintendo will keep the servers for now.

Now that I think of it it's only logical that the NX uses Nintendo Network since it's already so well established. Plus everything Nintendo is starting to do with My Nintendo has a lot of Nintendo Network features into it, so maybe that can be used as a part of the loyalty program.

There's only one way to find out.

I think it'll use the same service. Specifically, the Nintendo Network. Maybe the Nintendo NX won't be able to connect to the 3DS and Wii U in terms of online games but then certain services might be able to, like Miiverse, etc. If the NX used something different from the 3DS/Wii U then it would be kinda disappointing.

Unless it's backwards compatible with Wii U and 3DS games, then it should be able to connect with them. Not to mention, system transfer.

Probably not. They will probably just use the same service and allow miiverse compatibility

They literally just set up Nintendo Accounts which link to Nintendo Network and act as a middleman to My Nintendo and Miitomo will connect to the three as well. I can't see them trying to pull off creating an entirely new service, which would have to be a lot better to justify the costs and added creation time, which will have it's own problems when it launches. Nintendo Network, provided that Nintendo juice it up (lel) for NX, will be absolutely fine. What I'd rather Nintendo do, aside from making the online flawless, is adding a cross-game instant chat system, which can support several users, much like Steam already provides - also, groups. Groups would be fun.

That would be awesome. I never got why DS didn't use PictoChat for it's online services, like... okay, I can talk to people using PictoChat on my DS, but I have to literally be in the same room as them. It's only useful in school or a library! xD

Maybe they would, so that they don't have to maintain servers. It would be heartbreaking if Nintendo Network goes away. Most of the other companies keep online play for their previous gen consoles. Since Nintendo is trying to compete with them, I don't see why they wouldn't keep Nintendo Network.

Well, I'm pretty sure that Nintendo would make it so the NX also uses the same type of Wi-Fi service so that people could transfer there games from the Wii U to the NX (Let's say I downloaded a $60 game and I couldn't transfer it to the NX from my Wii U, then everyone would be mad at Nintendo because they wouldn't let them transfer there games from the Wii U to the NX) so they would keep the old Wi-Fi for the 3DS and Wii U and also keep it on the NX so people could transfer there games. Also the only reason they shut down the original DS and Wii was because they wanted people to buy the new systems (the 3DS and Wii U).

If yes:
Thank you guys you are listening to the gamers everywhere and your desire to be a creative business. Now the criticism will make you indubitably more popular. (as I'll be writing puns about how much you love money)
If no:
I can completely understand from a business standpoint but just because you have the money now doesn't mean you will have the money again. Then again your a super-business so you will never go under.
