Well, I don't know what you feel about this, but I think that Nintendo and Microsoft aren't competitors.
Microsoft and Sony are, because they are both doing the same thing, which is trying to get PC games run on dedicated hardware and software with graphic performance in mind (without being better than PCs lol) and with some exclusive titles sometimes, while Nintendo is doing something else in parallel, which is trying to run exclusive games only, optimized for outdated but unique and cheap hardware with fun in mind, with some generic titles sometimes too.
Basically, if the XBox died, no one would care that much since most games would still be out PS (and Halo could be a PC franchise (which would be better considering it's an FPS, better played with a mouse...)) so Sony is a competitor. But if Nintendo dies, it's not the XBox that will fill the gap. You don't replace Smash with SoulCalibur, Splatoon with Battlefield, Mario Kart with NeedForSpeed, etc.
I mean, it's as if a cereal brand was saying good things about a meat brand. They both sell food but you won't replace one with the other, so they are not competitors and can talk about each other without any interference.
