The following rules are currently accepted and agreed upon

  • Wireless must be completely off during the run (simply not being connected to the internet is not sufficient)
    • This means that o-powers and other features dependent on wireless cannot be used.
If something is not mentioned in the rules, it is probably allowed, but if you have a specific question ask in #pokemon or on the forums here.

Timing
Timing is done with the in-game timer as it shows at the file select screen after the credits. However, because the 8 minutes of credits count toward the game time and the game timer is inaccurate if you save and quit, it might be useful to also use real time (RTA). The guidelines for RTA timing are

  • Timing starts when you select "Begin game" (after the language select screen)
  • Timing ends at the fadeout after the AZ fight at the end of the game (after this fadeout there is another cutscene before the credits).

That's really incredible someone can finish the game that fast. I still think there is room for improvement though. Eliminating all unnecessary button movement and being able to win battles without losing any Pokemon would significantly speed up the run, although I can understand it isn't possible to train or prepare during a speed run.

That was pretty amazing regarding that it took me 21 hours to beat the game. Even though I like and want to do speedruns, They are just too difficult for me on most games.
